16202ba (Close To Buying… Wife Questions)

Hi,

After a few months of shortlisting various different Jumbo’s I’ve decided to go for a 16202ba.

https://www.audemarspiguet.com/com/e...1240BA.02.html

I had narrowed my search down to 4… 15202st, 15202ba, 16202st & 16202ba… however after reviewing all 4, the 16202ba hits a different cord with me, which is also heavily influenced by the rest of my collection… or what I feel is missing from my collection.

The 16202ba was the last of the 4 Jumbo’s that I managed to physically see. I really like the 15202ba but the 16202ba ‘sun burst’ dial looks better against my pale Irish skin :-)

My wife did ask me 2 interesting questions today after we looked at it… “01 - how is the sun burst dial made… is it just sprayed, or is there more craftsmanship behind it… 02 - how will that dial age over time… in 5 years time will I wish I got the the flat 15202ba dial?”

2 very interesting and valid questions that I don’t have the answer to. Thanks in advance for any input.

I will tell you that the dial is a masterpiece, I do not expect it to age/patina or fade unless you are outdoors all day every day.

As for the flat dial, per their site it looks like the ba (yellow gold) only comes with this dial option... not sure if you were looking at grey market and what color you had in mind?

Sorry, I meant the 15202ba gold dial vs the 16202ba ‘smoked dial’. Will the smoked dial date quickly or will it stand the test of time aesthetically (I’m sure it will be fine physically).

The “degrade” or smoked dial is gorgeous!

I am sure they will stand the test of time, and if it patinas in any way you can imagine the price would only go up! lol

If AD has the 16202ba, that is some rare air so I would not be on the fence too long on it!

16202BA is a homerun. No one has a crystal ball into the future, and the smoke dials might go out of favor, but I highly doubt it... I believe the smoked dial jumbos are instant classics...

16202BA is my favorite of the current Jumbos. Waiting patiently for some news from the boutique. Maybe next year.

I can't imagine AP is putting out dials that degrade quickly.
