Would you give up your Rolex to indulge your partner?

Just a hypothetical question.

If you only had one Rolex, would you sell it so that the wife could indulge herself in other luxury goods (jewellery, purses etc)?

This assumes you don’t want to cough up more cash and that you could comfortably afford what she wanted anyway without selling the Rolex.

Sure, my wife does so very much as we're a team. Plus there are other timepieces to enjoy here.

Thankfully my wife has no interest in luxury goods and views my interest in watches with bemusement. She will never put me in that position.

I am truly blessed.

No !

Any wife/spouse that would expect or allow you to do so is not worth having.

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm lucky enough that my wife has no need or want for luxury products, and is very cost conscious of everything.

She will not spend more than $60 on a bag/purse (which she'll only buy from Marshall's or TJ Maxx). All the jewelry she has was gifted to her by me. Shoes, same thing as purses. I think her most expensive footwear are her Blundstone boots, which I also gave her, lol.....her Rolex, yeah that also came from me for our 25th.

So luckily she would never tell me to sell my watch so she can buy an expensive purse or something like that. And if she were that kind of woman, she wouldn't be my wife.

This is definitely a "it depends" situation. But based on the exact scenario outlined, no, I would just pay for it and keep my watch.

That said, my wife makes more than me, so she should buy whatever she wants haha.

Why would you when, per your words, you can comfortably afford her jewelry? Stop being stingy and treat her to something nice.

My only Rolex was a wedding gift from her... I can't think of any scenario where I would sell it barring bartering with it for food or weapons during the apocalypse.

Same here. I am now wearing my 1675 GMT that she gave my 48 years ago. Our wedding date is engraved on the back.

That is awesome! We celebrate three years in April, so mine is a (slightly) newer vintage... 126610LV. I hope to wear mine for many years just as you have. If/when I decide to start growing a collection, no watch, no mater the cost or material, will be as valuable to me as this sub. Would love to see a picture of your 1675. Congrats on 48 years!

My wife doesn’t care for material possessions. So I feel it’s necessary to be doubly materialistic.

No, I wouldn't. My wife and I have been married for over 40 years. Besides the normal budget for food, clothing, mortgage etc. we set aside what I'll call "mad money" at the beginning of the year for each of us. I spend my money on what I want and she spends her money on what she wants. I have no say in what she spends her money on and she has no say in what I spend mine on. If either of us runs out of money during the course of the year, oh well. We just have to wait until January when the "mad money" gets replenished. Or, the individual which runs out of cash can sell something that is theirs to provide them some cash to get what it is that they want. We have been doing this for years and works out great for us. May not for others. This leads to not only a happy wife, but a happy husband as well.

Which I bought for her on our anniversary (and she bought me another rolex as well). In fact, every piece of fine jewelry she has I bought for her (and sometimes with her). We've been fortunate in our life where she can buy clothes etc she wants - luckily, she's very pragmatic about it. So, it's hard to imagine a scenario where I'd sell a rolex so she could shop (but with more than 1 rolex, I'd probably consider it - doubt she'd ask though)
