Steel Day-Date

How many of you would wear a steel day-date? I doubt Rolex would dilute the prestige of the DD with a steel offering, but it would probably kill in the market.

I’d love to have the functionality of the day-date, with the robustness of steel. It would have to be obviously different from the white gold / platinum models, so maybe offered on a jubilee / different dials?

I guess I can dream…

The only alternative I found was a 1969 39mm Jumbo Tudor 7020/0 w/ rotating bezel, similar to the Rolex Turnograph. They also made smooth and engine turned models as well.

But to answer your question, it would sell like crazy, hurt PM sales, and Rolex would never release such a reference, IMHO.

A Tudor date day is your closest answer. I prefer the old ones compared to the new royal models.

I know there are steel Daydates out there. But I don’t believe Rolex will ever release a steel DD on the general market. It’s their flagship. People love the sub, GMT, Daytona etc, but that’s the true king.

I swear at some point I read they were made as "service loaners" when Rolex flirted with the idea of some sort of exchange program while your PM DD was being serviced.

Now of course, the modern man of means just has a dozen Rollies so this is not a problem.

I'd be interested in one. Rolex have released steel models previously available in gold only, like the Sky-Dweller, the 6-digit Pepsi or the original Yacht-Master. So I guess it's not impossible.

There was a prototype steel day/date back in the day.

They made a small batch way back when.

They also made them under the Tudor name for the Asian market until recently. Those look way better than the dressy Tudors we get in the West. They even have that nice old school Rolex font. The "Tudor Glamour" and "Tudor Style" look like mall watches next to them.

EDIT: I should add that I think the Royal actually looks great, but it needs a Cyclops. It's one of the most obvious cases of the "make sure at least one thing is wrong on the Tudor" strategy.

Titanium DD would be cool, especially since the PM versions are quite heavy. It would be cool to have the look, but without the excessive weight.

I would not. Frankly the day complication is not all that useful. I have never asked myself what day it is. The point of a day-date to me IS that it is precious metal.

The presidential bracelet in particular is special. I am glad it is reserved for a watch that is a bit special.

Me, too, Brian. As a long time Seiko collector, I’m not selling THAT one. It was my first Seiko diver: SKX009



Oh, and I have lots of Seiko DD’s Mine is from 2011. I bought it on the rubber strap, and bought the bracelet separately. I love these jangly cheap Seiko Jubilees. So comfy. I have several brand new in packages as spares. I just checked this on my Timegrapher, and it’s running great, after 13 years, without a service.

I think Steel Day/Date with an olive dial and white gold bezel would be great, I doubt Rolex will ever do it. I do like the Tudor vintage Day/Dates
