Not seeing the Rolex price drops / availability

I keep seeing videos online about prices dropping on Rolexes and supply being up. Yet when I check Chrono24 and other websites, the prices are still well above retail. Also, my local ADs in the large DFW market have zero inventory. What’s with the discrepancy?

For reference, I’ve been looking for:
Day Date YG White Dial
GMT 2 RG (either solid or metal mix)
Submariner YG or Bluesy (metal mix)

My advice is tell your AD you would like one of the watches you mentioned. I would bet you one "magically" comes available within 2-4 weeks. ADs have inventory, its an open secret. They want you to believe you lucked out & got a watch. There are exceptions, SS GMT, Sub, Daytona, for example.

Watch: What is "watch"?

Yep, go talk to your AD. None of those watches you’ve listed should be difficult to get a hold of.

Also, C24 is over-inflated garbage… not representative of the market. This is a well known fact.

Yes they’re still above retail but there are many models that if you tried to sell to dealers they will offer you less than retail, even with steel sports models like the air king and explorer.

People keep saying prices are down because if you check websites like watchcharts, they are massively down from the historic highs of over 12 months ago.

What’s with the discrepancy? There is no discrepancy, it’s just context

I’m on a waiting list at the Rolex boutique in Highland Park, Eiseman’s Jewelry at Northpark, and Peter Andries in Southlake. Nothing in inventory and no calls (I’ve checked back in person a few times).

Walked past my local AD here in Tenerife, having been away for 4 months

I haven't seen so many watches in the window for years. All 'display only' of course but was very surprised at what they were displaying

Funnily enough had the same thing in manchester UK today too, even OP 41s in the window, and ticking. Not seen that for years

I visited my AD two days ago, to get something (non-watch) for my wife for Mother's Day. They said things were really getting better.

I visited them for the first time earlier this year, to drop a watch for repair and get "on the list" for a DJ for my wife's birthday in July. I also mentioned wanting a Sea Dweller for myself and bought a Tudor as a graduation gift for our oldest.
They got me the SD within a couple of months, after only 1-2 "drop in" visits.

While ringing up the Mother's Day present, she told me that they expected the DJ "in the next few weeks".

I know neither is especially difficult to get, but I think 2 watches in less than 6 months is great. Especially since I was pretty specific on her DJ...

When I look at the prices on C-24, I usually knock off about 20% to get to what the real price is

That's better than what I saw at the AD earlier this week: They look at C-24 then add 20%.

Over all, gray market prices have gone up from their lows and might still be going up now.

At the AD availability has opened up for Datejust models. And many two tones across the board.

As far as "overpricing" Chrono24 is nothing - look at Tourneau pre owned Rolexes. But both still do sell, so you can't say that their prices are unreasonable when people are buying from them.

Watchcharts is still trending down and here in the uk theres lots of sales on pre owned rolex too
