So I'm thinking of buying one of these lenses
so that I can take better pictures when I post on TRF. Anybody have any experience with Sigma lenses like this.
http://www.amazon.com/Sigma-200-500m...3305375&sr=1-1 Is this overkill? |

Personally, I'd just buy a telescope
You have a Canon, right? If you're seriously considering buying a telephoto lens, I'd stick with them. It's what the pros use to shoot sports and etc. I sat behind the photographers at the Bruins game a couple of times, I had serious lens envy. They are amazing photographers, hockey isn't easy to photograph. |

Yep. You could almost buy a 60 megapixel P65+ for that piece of chump change.
http://www.luminous-landscape.com/re...nnounced.shtml And the Canon lens I'd recommend is about 10% of that price~! |

Hmmm, it's a $43,000 USD camera. I know somebody in Calgary who owns one, it is completely unnecessary but oh so wonderful.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/karlstaddon/3940067134/ <-- Sample photo. The RAW photos come out at almost 30MB!~ but even at original size it is really good quality. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2646/...c08cdcfd_o.jpg |

Not bad in a pinch but I prefer this baby. Granted, at $120,000 used it's not for everyone.

I think Sports Illustrated and National Geographic own a couple. You can lease it for around $4000 a month here if you want. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...mm_f_5_6L.html

I think I should have put a or two in there because that lens isn't mine. I have read there are only around 20 that have been made and I'm not sure if any are owned by an individual. Also the pics are off the net.

Psht, the MSRP is only $90,000! Though it is a custom order, so I guess if you positively can't wait...
"Few of these lenses exist; Sports Illustrated magazine owns two of them, as does Canon Professional Services and James Jannard, the billionaire founder of Oakley and RED Digital Cinema." It's a little disappointing that's as close as it will get. You can't even see the USA flag... |
