Daytona oysterflex -scarce or not .

Are we seeing more and more available Daytona oysterflexes available or are they harder to obtain in different dial combinations? Been waiting ages for the black insert face gold version some will call the Pikachu. My Ad says hopefully soon been 2.5 years !

oysterflex daytona is hard to get, try speeding up the process by investing more on spend history.

Definitely hard to acquire, especially the one you reference.

This. We’ve been after that same model but no luck after 1 year. Other dial combinations are less sought after and easier to get

I think availability depends on gold / dial combination. Was able to get a rose gold on black earlier this year before anything actually on my wish list.

I got one on a walk in last month for my friend. I believe it was yellow gold.

Certain yellow gold yes. The white dial and black dial are pretty easy. The gold dial with bright black subs is the hardest to get.

The golden dial with just black rings is a really good looking dial by the way.

It just depends on your AD. I would cast a wider net and try multiple ADs.

For what it's worth I got mine ("Pikachu" - 126518LN) within a week of asking.

Was that this year or last ? Just wondering if it’s more likely to be available sooner than later depending where you are .

Looks like some from the comments it’s 50/50 some getting it quick maybe and others waiting a long time

I’m curious what people think are the toughest Daytona Oysterflex combinations lately…

Must depend on the AD.
Got a ghost (12 series) as a first time purchase at a Boutique after a 10 months wait.

Surprised to hear some folks are managing to get these quickly, or as walk-ins.
From experience, any Daytona is difficult to get, especially precious metal on an OF.
Ghost and Pikachu seem to be the toughest, other configs likely not that much quicker. A different price point altogether, but I’d say the hardest was the meteorite dial.

Surely current ease of availability (or lack thereof) depends greatly on what country you are shopping / living in?

Seems to be by looking at the comments above - I mean a week waiting time is unbelievable but maybe great luck

Would have to agree, however there does seem to be some commonality when it comes to the less available references. As a reference point I have been shopping in saudi this year and the pikachu and PN were never readily available to try, took about 3 to 4 months before I could get my hands on them. During the same period of time most other references were available including the sundust/RG. Ended purchasing the PN. AD did mention that Pikachu and Ghost were the most requested and would have the longest wait.

I’ve never heard those silly names probably because the ADs don’t use silly nicknames but I was offered a gold Daytona on OF twice in the past year.

Which dial. Again the Daytona OF is not hard to get depending on dial and combo.

The silly names are not really silly but instead useful in the sense that they are:

1) descriptive and
2) memorable.

As for the names being a bit childish or naff, sure I agree. And they also identify you are a bit of a watch geek / Rolex fan boy/girl. You may - or may not - be happy to be identified as someone that spends too much time obsessing about dial / bezel combinations on something as mundane as a watch. I don't use those names in Rolex ADs for that reason, even though the sales associates have on rare occasion used the nick names themselves. (I imagine their brand training asks them not to).

You do make some sense. After the delivery of my 116500 in early 2017 and learning about watches since i began collecting in the 70s, i corrected a guy who called my Daytona a panda. I explained what a panda watch looked like and then found out that other people on TRF etc were mistakenly referring to my daytona as a panda. So, just my opinion but the nicknames of such sophisticated machinery as a Rolex are kind of silly?!

Hard is relative.

Easier than Patek Aquanaut.

Harder than submariner.

I was able to get this RG beauty from my AD after a 4 month wait. I might add that I have a very good relationship with my AD. May not be as hard to get as the Ghost or Pikachu, but still difficult non the less.
