Watch decisions and dilemmas! What to get, what to do!
OK well about 99% certain I have sold my 233 and now I can't decide what to get!!!
Anything I buy will be used most likely or at least gray market so keep that in mind when spending my money. I have about 10 K to play with (perhaps more if you guys really blow me away with an amazing watch as I have other pieces I have tagged to sell worth about 8K most likely I could scrape up enough to buy a used Plat DD with this other money) Help me decide what to get.... Multiple watches are a serious consideration as is adding a bit to make that happen. I tend to be partial to sports watches and I rather a screw down crown.... I do not like having to worry about my watch if swimming on a trip or anything and if I take it off I am worried about it! Here are the watches I own and am not selling (have a couple others I am selling that I wont list in this group) so perhaps it may help you with suggestions. Breitling Navitimer 2nd Gen, Rolex SS DJ with Jubilee bracelet and white Jubilee dial with silver arabics, Rolex DJ II SS/WG Rhodium dial with Blue Arabics, Rolex Exp II White dial, TT Rolex Oysterquarts, AP Ultra Thin manual Skeleton, Bell & Ross BR 03-01 Phantom, IWC Ti Aquatimer Chrono & Ball Night Train. Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Panerai 243, 279 and 000 Glashutte Original Sports Evo Perp Calendar on the Trieste strap (a sports watch with complications fascinates me for some reason) AP ROO (Really kinda turned off on the ROO though as I hear the minute hand tends to jump when you lock the crown for some reason) I thought Hublot but the one I like costs as much as the Plat Daytona and just not worth it to me. Rolex Milgaus GV, Submariner LV, (neither the GV or LV are really high on the must have list, GV more so than LV as Id take the cyclops crystal off the LV) Sure I want a Plat DD but that is just not in the budget unless I liquidate all the pieces I plan on selling for one watch and I do not think I am ready to do that at this point.... I am open to other ideas but I do not want a GMT II or IIC, I don't want a DSSD (I do but not now, they will be around a while) nor do I want a Daytona (I know those are the first ones that come to everyones mind here on the board haha). Oh yes and no vintage, I like to wear my watches and not worry about them like that. A new Panerai in house is not an option... They do not interest me. Nor does anything bigger than 44 mm (except the Fifty Fathoms at 45) as my wrist is 6.8 in. |

Romain Jerome Mood-Dust DNA watches are simply amazing, IMO... And truly unique.

VC Overseas maybe? Are you interested in a Daytona? But if I was spending that dough it would be on an AP ROO with no hesitation.

The RJ is just over the edge for me! Very cool but too much of a niche item.
I like the AP ROO but everyone I know with the new and old movement complain how when setting the minute hand jumps when you close the crown and I just am let down in something that stupid in such a high end watch. VC is nice but dressier than I feel I want now but there will be one someday in my future. Daytona just isn't it for me I like them and have come close to buying many times but just stop before I do... I wore a friends for a few days and it just did not give me that magic feeling.... |

How about a Hublot Big Bang. Amazing looks, fusion of different kind of materials and very trendy. Though they are 44 mm, they wear much smaller. That is what I want to buy next!

I just have a hard time spending the Hublot money for a rubber band and an ETA movement. To me they look a lot like a AP ROO and at that price I think Id just get a ROO... I just am missing something I think with Hublot
Please do not take it the wrong way I think ETA makes great movements and I love how you can get them fixed most anywhere easily unlike many in house lines but WOW that is a lot for what you get it seems to me. |

given your inclination to sports watches and your fascination with sports complicated watches, go for fifty fathoms chrono (fly-back)...its very pretty and well respected...if you prefer non-chrono, again my suggestion is a fifty fathoms...I think its with-in your budget and damn good...plus you have the option of stell or gold and an all-black version too...you will not regret it my friend
a very close second for the ultimate satisfaction watch would be a VC overseas chrono (again, its new non-chrono versions are also superb ) |

Out of that list I'd pick the ROO without hesitation, although I'd flip a watch to get one with a bracelet. Second choice would be one of the PAMs

How many of these watches have you tried on? I mean that might take a ton off the list. I've loved watches in pictures and then tried it on and I didn't really care for it.
The white expy II was that for me. So, do you really care about in-house movements or not? All those PAM's you listed are ETA and you sold your in-house. An in-house that I'm considering is IWC Big Pilot (7day) or IWC Portugese (7day). Basically, it'll just be a process of elimination and you NEED to try them on. Buying a 10k watch, you need to take some time on it. Once you try it on, you'll know.

I have tried on everything on my list. Only watch I am considering that I havent worn the exact model is the Titanium ROO as no one has it by me BUT I highly doubt that is where I am going.
I will not buy another Panerai In House movement again due to an experience I previously had with them. Other in house I am open to. I really do not mind ETA BUT the Hublot I just do not see what all the hype is about I guess... I really do not like Rubber straps much at all and the Hublot seems to look best on Rubber. |
