Would buy from the AD

Got the call earlier. AD I haven't used before offered me a Sub date.

I'm not desperate at all for it but would wear it as a daily.

But kind of thinking of taking it purely to give myself another AD as an option.

My old AD has gone silent.

Just wondered people's opinions. The market has changed so much recently

Do you want the sub date? If so buy it. If not leave it for someone else.

I agree. Unless you want it, I would let someone who does have it.

This.

That said, everyone should have a great diver, so if you don’t now is the time. If you do, on,y buy if you want it. No reason to drop 10K if you don’t.

If you will wear it it's still a safe buy even with market conditions, and you get to start a new AD relationship? Seems like a no brainer to me. AD's pick and choose how they distribute their watches, why can't you pick and choose what AD's you use too.

I'd buy it - never hurts to have more AD options, it's a watch you want, and it's tricky to lose money on a Sub. Can't see any downsides as long as you have the free cash.

This is proof that most people were buying these pieces due to FOMO. Now that the market has slowed, we are seeing these types of threads regularly.

As others have said, buy it if you want it. Idk if I would tie down $10k on a watch I sorta want to build a relationship or for future watch purchases.

I would be surprised if it was still available now if you didn't say 'yes' when they called earlier

If it is they must really want your business!

If you want it, buy it. If you don’t, then don’t…

When did you request it? That’s quite relevant. If it was in the last few months, that’s quite different to asking two or three years ago and getting a call out of the blue.

I’m in the latter camp and right now, if they called, I’d say I’m no longer interested because I wasn’t waiting years for them to call so I went elsewhere. I don’t intend to be mean but it’s good to give AD’s a dose of reality.

Would you really ? If you really wanted it you would wait for it. I think this is half the reason why the "wait list' is a thing. It weeds out the tyre kickers.
It's not the AD's fault they haven't got an endless amount of Submariners to dish out. The only reality for them that changes is that they move to the next customer on the list.

If only it were that simple. My AD was clear the “wait list” they have put me on is part of a much bigger and more magical thing called “an allocation process” which is a complex system used to measure my spend on jewellery and silverware. When this measure reaches a certain mysterious and unknown level, stock shortages will disappear and submariners will suddenly rain from the skies.

So, having waited for several years, and not wanting to be thought of as a tyre kicker, I bought from an alternative supplier who was actually willing and able to put a clear price on the watch and supply one same day at that price. Not needing two, I would now decline if called, yes.

You made it sound like after years of waiting with no success at one AD, you registered an interest at another and were still waiting. It didn't sound like you had one already.
I guess I figured wrong due to the amount of posts I read on this forum that say something along the lines of "it wasn't really what I wanted, but the market is still good so I bought it anyway......". I wish I had a spare 10K to spend on things that I didn't REALLY want.
My apologies.

No problem - I just meant I gave up and went grey.

My point to OP was just it’s relevant to know how long he has been waiting as that will impact the AD’s expectations. Weeks is different to years - if he’s been waiting years, things change over time.

Anyway - congrats to OP on his new sub. His AD is doing better than mine!

I would buy it. Always good to have another AD option where you have a relationship.

Why are you worrying about market conditions?

It’s a sub date, great watch. So buy it if you want it, don’t buy it if you don’t want it.

Not really sure what else there is to say.

Get it and enjoy it or pass it on, things are changing and this waitlist garbage will end sooner or later and we will all be able to get what we want. Mostly?

Cheers,

You are right to buy it. Great watch, which you’ll enjoy for a long time.
Added bonus of a new AD, but once the relationship is firmly established, I’d stick to one to build up the transaction history.
