Day Date - White Gold vs Platinum
Now that both have fluted bezel, which one people buying (if not ice blue dial). Platinum looks amazing but way more on grey market...

I was offered the blue dial platinum and turned it down. Platinum isn’t worth as much as gold and dropping $65k on a watch that looks stainless wasn’t for me.
I’d rather have 3 stainless watches for that price. |

It’s so subjective. This is what my AD texted me and I just don’t see it as a $65k watch. I definitely wouldn’t wear it as a daily. Was just hard to justify for me. Granted, this is my collection so it probably could have diversified things a bit but you can see the type of watches I go for. |

You have nice watches. I’ve had a lot of those and currently have the Sedna speedmaster- what a great watch. I would actually recommend not picking one of these up because it would probably cause you to pretty much completely rebuild that collection. I don’t have any of those watches anymore except the omega I mentioned. And you really do have a great collection. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I chose white gold; it’s hard to tell it apart from platinum visually.

I have owned several of both and find neither works well for me. Price wise it is the WG, cool wise, the Platinum. Pay to play.

The Platinum with glacier / ice blue dial. Unique and it’s a for “those who know” kind of reference

Neither for me, but if I had to choose it would be white gold. Platinum is super soft.

The DD40 in platinum w/Ice Blue dial will be my next watch (waiting for over a year).
However, I have fallen in love with the MoP dial with 10 baguettes and may want this in WG in a DD40. Wonder which will be easier to get?

For me, it sorta depends on if it's going to be a special piece, only worn on special occasions and the like, I think the platinum fits that bill better.
If it's going to be worn more frequently, the WG is much more wearable. (IMO) |

Platinum with a fluted bezel is more rare than white gold with a fluted bezel. It’s also the first time that Rolex offered a fluted bezel on platinum. That’s why it costs significantly more.
IMO precious metal watches are not to be used for everyday use. I prefer platinum based on the way it glows in certain lighting and shines under the sun. They both look the same from far but it’s really a personal preference. It’s easy to get bored at looking at white gold when it loses its newness shine |

Platinum with ice blue is gorgeous but the WG olive green dial and blue Ombre dial are equally as nice in my opinion.

White precious metal is always a psychological challenge for me. While I want one, I don’t want the cost or the weight on bracelet. Probably will buy one someday but it doesn’t make much sense comparing to steel. But then what makes sense about watch collecting.

Either one for me, The platinum on ice blue with the Arabic numbers is sweet.
The WG with green dial is spectacular. DD is just special! So you can’t go wrong with either one. Depends on what you already have in your collection. Post some pics after you decide. Cheers, |

Sounds like the only platinum DD that makes sense is the ice blue versions - if going other colour dial WG - weird that they do all the dials for both, especially now that both have fluted bezels. There used to be a difference/reason to go with platinum if didn't want that bezel. I guess they know what they are doing, but I can't figure it out....

Personally I think if you’re going Rolex platinum you need to buy the Daytona.
My Everose and White Gold Day Date 40’s are both in my top 10 watches in the collection (both Anniversary Olive dials) but I’ve no desire for the platinum…..lovely as it is. |

Platinum for me.
It also has no yellowish hue like the WG.

If you can get a perfect fit with a DD, platinum is the way to go. If not, the weight of platinum will move all over the place or be overly heavy tight.

My cousin has a platinum day date, I find it too heavy. I prefer WG.

If you can stomach the step up in price I’d go for the platinum. I love mine and the unique feel on the wrist. It’s really versatile, more durable than gold, and despite being a heavy hitter, pretty under the radar which I like. Only watch guys will know you’re wearing an extremely special piece. However, if that feels like too much to spend a watch, there is certainly no shame going the white gold route. I think you’re set for a win-win either way. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
