Vacheron 222

I maybe getting the historique 222 in yellow gold which Vacheron launched in 2022 soon from my AD after 2 years of wait. I tried t one time 2 years back and liked it... did not feel very much in your face, and the design is classic.

any feedback from any owner or someone who saw it/tried it or any expert here? that would help for sure.

as i said, i am buying from an AD, so i would be paying retail.

thanks in advance.

I’d personally go used and get a 20% plus discount over RRP

US retail is 74k, or the exact equivalent of 58k pounds converted to USD at today’s conversion rates. Is the 222 priced 20% lower vs. US in the UK?

74k + sales tax?

It's priced at £71k inc vat which equates to circa $90500

Absolutely beautiful watch! I was offered the 222 by my boutique right before the price increase but passed. Still kicking myself till this day. However, I’m at a different point in my life now with other priorities so in retrospect was the right decision.

Go for it!

I got one in October 2022.
Stunning watch, you’ll love it.

It’s not everyone’s style, I didn’t think it would be mine to be honest. But I love wearing it, and it is a real crowd pleaser too.

I'd much rather hunt for an original 222 than getting the remake. More interesting movement and better date placement IMO. So no, I'd pass.

Congrats on the potential pickup! The Historique 222 is a stunning piece with a timeless design. Paying retail for it is fair, especially given the wait. Enjoy your new watch!

I prefer Tissot PRX to 222… plus enough money left to pick up Patek 5811… and a trip to Switzerland

I think 222 is probably the most over hyped/ priced watch out there

It was the darling of Watches and Wonders when it came out, but has fallen off a cliff subsequently. The VC historiques line seems to me an open admission that VC has no new ideas other than monetizing their backlist. I wish VC did more with their traditionnelle line, which I think spectacular.

Rolex and Patek's catalog is almost entirely based or inspired by their back catalog... Buyers want timepieces with a history and a story behind it.

That being said, the historiques line is low production, most of what they produce is Patrimony, Traditionale, Overseas and Fifty-six. My boutique only gets one or two historique models per year.

You could buy two 222's for price of 5811 on grey market... still less then the spend required at AD to get one if you wanted. The 222 is a sleeper compared to jumbo/nautilus

I am not current on what secondary market is for these pieces nor do I care. I simply commented on value assigned by VC to its product vs competition!

Now, if u tell me secondary on 5811 is 2x that of 222, I guess that tells u how preposterous pricing on 222 is to begin with. It should have been $35k watch and then it becomes interesting.

The direct competitors to the 222, the 5811 and the 16202 are priced at 70,100 and 80,700 respectively. Another data point, the Piaget Polo 79, is 73,000. The 222 is priced appropriately and not too expensive relative to the competition.

I absolutely love the 222 but the gold version the way the integrated bracelet sits felt like it was just a solid gold wrist band which felt hard to mix and match with styles. I've held off on it for now but would love them to do a steel version which would go with so much more stuff. The older 222s IMO looks nicer as there is a little more plan in the bracelet so you can see a bit more space and it looks more natural than being one solid wrap around piece that the gold looks like.
