Does a precious metal Rolex ruin your appreciation of SS Rolex?
Looking to add a precious metal piece but I’m afraid that there is no turning back. The weight of it is something else compared to SS. Afraid I won’t wear my SS Rolexes after buying them. Has anyone else experienced this?

Totally inidvidual taste. My experience has been the opposite, going from yellow gold (many years ago) to ss. And having done so, only wearing ss.

I go back and forth on this. When you first get a PM piece that is usually the thought. But over time, you learn to appreciate both.

Over time I still prefer PM, but I have a newfound appreciation of stainless when I got a Skydweller recently. I guess that's sort of cheating since it's a heavier stainless model but still love it all the same. |

I love my yellow gold sub and Oysterflex Daytona, but still thoroughly enjoy wearing my DJ41 with fluted bezel and jubilee.

Does wearing a Tom Ford suit ruin the experience of wearing Levi jeans and a $30 shirt?

No, but Zimmerli kicked Fruit of the Loom out of the undies drawer.

I had TT, so not totally PM, but prefer the look of SS way more, so for me no.

I wouldn't say it "ruined my appreciation" of SS: I still appreciate SS, but I've no longer a desire to wear it.

I prefer my gold models but frequently wear my steel ones when the mood strikes me.

Not at all. Both metals are fantastic in their own right.

I paid a premium for my TT, and I love it. But I’m most comfortable wearing my SS watches. I have neither the desire or the pocketbook for a full PM watch. That’s brand new car money, to me, so not worth it.

Why is the weight of precious metal considered a good thing? Please explain.

My SS Yachtmaster feels much more durable than the SS Cartier. The Cartier is gorgeous but feels cheap. I also received a TT Seiko as a gift (the one that looks like the TT DJ). The bracelet was so cheap feeling that I put it on a rubber strap. It’s why a Rolex with SEL feels more durable than one with hollow. PM feels more luxurious than SS. Some less expensive cars use thinner steel on the outer body. You can feel the difference in quality and workmanship when you close a car’s door. |
