Rolex Explorer 1 40mm
Hello everyone,
I have a new Rolex Explorer 1 40mm and I am considering switching it for the new Rolex Explorer 2 Polar and an additional $4,500 in cash. Would you make the deal? I appreciate any thoughts you have. |

If you have the wrist for it…… IMO > 7.5…..
then hell yes . I’d love to daily an expII polar. I however have smaller wrists so I prefer the 124270 in 36mm, the polar dwarfs my wrist. If you prefer it visually then why not ..Explorer, Spring Diver & APRO.. |

MSRP between the two is about $2000, I think. Is the ExpII polar commanding significantly more than MSRP in the marketplace? $4500 additional cash seems steep to me, so hoping others more intimate with the market for this watch can chime in. If you paid sales tax on top of the original purchase, it just seems to be worse of a deal, but what do I know? In NC that would put you just over $12,700 for an ExpII. The heart wants what the heart wants. I have a 16570 polar and I do love it. I'd try on both a 40mm and a 42mm before doing anything, if you haven't already. I wish you well.

I own the 40mm Explorer 1.
It wears totally different than the Expl 2 so you should try it on before purchase. As far as the trade numbers, can’t comment on what is acceptable to you. |

Financially that's a no brainer with condition / yr being relatively equal.

As mentioned the cash to pay is too much. Tbh I’d keep what you already have

I'd definitely do it but only with less cash out of your pocket.
I'd look elsewhere if they're not willing to negotiate. |

I don’t know what it is about that Explorer-deuce. Polar is a siren song for a lotta folks.
I tried it on and it’s a big watch, not as big as Sky-dweller however. Be patient. Offer $2,000 on top and work (slightly) from there. Market cool and cooling. |

Echoing the above that the Exp. I and Exp. II Polar would make an awesome 1-2 punch.

I like the trade for the Explorer II but it is not a fair deal for you. I would look at the 21 Series Explorer II which has the better hands in my opinion and a bulletproof movement. They should be very close on the deal for the Explorer or at least significantly less than what you were quote by your dealer. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

I’d rather have the Explorer 1, though in 36.

I own and adore the polar but this is too much delta. The ii is starting to trade under retail at least here in uk. It’s a couple thousand difference imo

Agree with the majority, they wear very differently and both so nice that it seems a pity to cancel one for the other.

I’ve had both and now only have the Explorer I 40 mm. Dresses up or down better than the II which screams tool watch.

No way. Unless you absolutely need the GMT function and/or like the Exp II $4500 more.
