Recent AD visit

Bought a few Tudors from them, and am (hopefully) on the list for a GMT.

Stopped in on Saturday, and chatted with my salesperson. She's awesome. Makes the buying process FUN!

She said..... I can offer you......

Datejust 36 black dial, jubilee, diamonds
Two tone Yachtmaster
Rhodium Yachtmaster
Blue Yachtmaster
Two tone Skydweller

None of which would be a good fit for me. The DJ with an oyster would be good for my wife, but not something we are willing to buy at the moment. Blue Yachtmaster might be nice, but not something I'm really looking for at the moment.

But, this is quite a change from recent visits where NOTHING was available.

I tried on a GMT BLRO and am smitten by that!!!

It’s good to see watches being offered but in all honesty no point offering anything up if they know you are chasing a GMT. Hopefully you get the call on that one

Having purchased several watches from this AD, too bad you weren’t offered a single watch that you fancied.

Not knowing how long you’ve been on the so called waiting list for a GMT, but this shows just how dissatisfying it is when working through these AD’s - purchase history, on the ‘list’ for a specific piece, and all they offer is a sniff at the slow moving models.

I feel like that was a test to get the GMT... they usually wont sell you a first GMT or Daytona..... shouldve bought the DJ for your wife if you want a GMT... just saying

I agree that you needed to buy one of these to get any serious consideration for a GMT.

If you want a preview of ADs likely to lose their Rolex accounts in any future downsizing, just look for those that foster this kind of thinking…

I think we might get the DJ for my wife, or maybe even a 37 YM Rhodium. She likes that bezel better than the fluted DJ bezel!

Do it, if you really want to be considered for the GMT. Your wife will love that watch. Make it clear it’s for HER. Sounds silly, but it will increase your chances of getting that GMT, for YOU.

Good luck and you have a decent chance of getting it now I think. Jealous though as I am looking for a blue YM and no-one in London has one and others in other countries are being offered it on walk-in :(

The GMT is a hard one even with some history, especially the BLRO on the Jubilee or oyster. They are very scarce right now, I haven’t seen one on display for awhile now.

Yes, another purchase should move you up the so called list. The main thing is buy what you want and are going to enjoy. Don’t be pressured into buying something you really don’t want.

Cheers,

This thread is pitiful. The OP comes on here, laments that despite a decent purchase history, all he gets is a sniff at slow moving watches he has no interest in.

And all people can tell him is to buy something, anything, just to keep moving up on some phantom list, just to be considered for the GMT; not to get one, just to be considered!!! How absurd??

Easy to spend someone else’s money…

It's not so much playing the game as being played. Fine if you have money to waste.

She’s not that awesome (unless you mean she really good looking) she didn’t sell you what you wanted!

Obviously, you will know better than me the relationship you have. But based on what you have said I would say if it’s a steel GMT you are waiting on it’s likely not going to be soon based on the watches they can offer you currently.

Those Rolex would be considered more first time purchases and in general they aren’t going to sell you a steel GMT as a first Rolex despite you having bought tudors.

Sounds like get on well with them though so maybe try and ask if that is the case.

Do not play this dumb game with the AD in today’s marketplace.
Those references you were offered are going to be plentiful.
Wait for the watch you want.

Wow, things have really changed.

No, not the watch availability, but the responses and general attitude on this forum.

Its how it is.. he bought a few Tudors.. that wont get you into the GMT/Daytona list. Sadly when you ask for either of those AD's file your request into the G file. I never asked for a Daytona I got offered one after 6 Rolex purchases. Fine tell him to wait for the watch he wants.. it'll never happen. There's hundreds of people with more purchases waiting. At that point go grey and save the money if you don't want other watches. Porsche wont sell you a new GT3rs, Hermes wont sell you a Birkin without prior purchase history... thats just how it is love it or leave it. Will the market change? Maybe, but for now thats reality. YM and Dj are beautiful watches, If I wanted a Rolex I'd love a DJ until I waited on a hard to get piece. Or again, buy a nice one for your wife then when yours comes you'll have a nice his and hers set.....

This is all very true in the current market, and sound advice. It is how it is. Nothing we can do to change it. As for me, I’d rather do this, than buy second hand from a grey dealer. So far, I’ve gotten 2 watches that I wanted, and am waiting on a third. Patience is the key.

All interesting thoughts. We'll buy my wife a DJ or YM if my wife decides she wants one. No way will I spend $11k just to get access to spend another $10k or more on what we want.

I think my SA is a genuinely nice person, but she may not have the power to get me a GMT. Who knows. I'll keep asking, but I'm probably at the end of the line behind the big spenders. And there is no shortage of big spenders.

Just keep buying. And make sure it’s not considered same category as the one you requested.

That’s the most assured way to luck yourself into it
