Is it possible to get the ROLEX DEEPSEA CHALLENGE for MSRP?

hi,

I am noticing that the DeepSea Challenge is listed for approx $23K MSRP but people are selling it for low to mid $40K.

If I go to my AD, then can I get it for $23K?

Why such price gouging by others?

thnx

It’s called demand vs. supply.

You can try to get from your AD but don’t expect a call anytime soon….

So basically it is a low production watch which is flying off the shelves?

Anyway, don't hesitate to walk into an AD, you're the kind of customer they need...

deepsea challenge

you must have a 'special official Rolex website' where shows a special msrp price @ 23k instead of 25950

Just don't call it a panda at the Rolex store, Rolex doesn't like their dealers using silly names...

Must be fact back at Rolex HQ then

Your past comments about ‘real’ pandas and ‘not a black eyed panda’ predate last week.

Rolex are very happy with the panda nickname. They let you search it on the web site.

You are correct and correct but as I said, Rolex as a company have generally discouraged their SAs from using nicknames. I merely worked as a sub contractor for an AD years ago and still know some of these people. I have no reason to speak for anyone except for myself. I have a few wonderful Rolex watches and not a nickname to be found among them, especially my Daytonas which oddly enough are named for a very famous city in Florida “where racing flourished in the early 20th century.”

People are just greedy taking advantage of the supply/demand situation and customers fall for it whom paying beyond the MSRP.

Just visit several Rolex AD if you can and inquire about the watch you are interested to purchase.

??? Yes, you can, and it does not hurt to ask at the AD, they are rare but not impossible to get. Depends on the AD size and your purchase history, but this is not a big seller, ADs like pieces they can turn around quickly and not everyone can pull off a 50mm watch on the wrist.

Try, no harm

Happy Hunting!

I honestly don’t see anybody buying this to wear. It’s a super cool horology collector item though. Would be amazing to have on display, especially for a grey market dealer etc. the watch is clownishly large haha

I’m not sure my AD has seen one. Haven’t heard about the large national chains but I’m guessing a few trickled through there.

I saw one once at the WOS Soho in New York soon after it was announced. It was “exhibition” but almost comically huge. I asked the SA about demand, he kind of whispered to me that no one had asked for one.
So definitely a rare bird but I don’t believe it is flying off the shelves. I think a bigger AD would do their best to source one for you.

It won't take long to get one at MSRP and before long, I'm sure it's going to be available below msrp on the secondary market.

I doubt it. I think this one will be a rare beast for some time and then get discontinued at which point the secondary market price will only go up.

I'm still struggling to understand why Rolex made a watch that can function at a depth that would squash the wearer to the size and shape of a pancake.

I have been asking that question ever since I really got interested in watches in the 1970's. Technically speaking you would not be crushed by pressure at that depth, you just die from improper partial pressure of your breathing mix or possibly HPNS. No person has ever been diving below approximately 1600 fsw, and they likely never will. So watches with depth ratings deeper than around 2000 feet are 100% fluff and bragging rights. That being said, my newest watch is the James Cameron version of the Rolex Deepsea, which I will never take deeper than around 100 feet.

I would not say that the Rolex Deepsea is unwearable due to it's size though. At 50mm is is a full 3mm smaller that this Citizen which I own and wear on a fairly regular basis.
