Celebrating my kids

I’m thrilled to make this post. I’ve spent the last six months working with a few amazing ADs to assemble a three watch gift set for my three kids. I hope first they’re not following me here silently because I’m about to do a reveal!

I’ve shared my story here on my first Rolex. And I’ve shared the reconditioning thread that is still ongoing with Rolli as I await the results, but I’m so fortunate to be able to do the following for my kids, whom I so proud of! I never would have expected this to happen as quickly as it has! The market is changing. I was thinking this would take at least a year to make happen, maybe more.

Here’s the background. I bought three watches for them. They’re all very different kids yet all very much alike. I have two in law school and one working as a security consultant for Accenture. They all have a favorite color, one green, one blue, and one agnostic.

So over the last six months I’ve assembled a special surprise for them. One of my kids graduates Texas A&M law school in May 2025. One graduates Columbia Law school in May 2027 and my other son, the security consultant just earned a promotion that becomes effective in November of this year.

So here’s what I did. I asked my AD to secure three watches. If they came in before I need them, no problem I’ll put them in my safe. But each kid gets a Darejust 41 (except one son who a 41 would be too big) as a gift from mom and dad for their achievement.

It’s been clear to me that the market has changed and some of these hard to get DJ41s are flowing again

So I scored! See the pics.

I’m going to park the OP 36 “Rolex” Green that my AD sold me along with the Blue 41 at the same time, yes that happened, in my safe until May when he graduates law school and give the blue DJ to my son at thanksgiving in November. And the Rodium goes into the safe until my baby graduates in 2027.

I want to give them these gifts now but my wife
Is holding me back and saying wait. Intellectually, I agree. But dang. I want them to rock these babies now.

Beautiful. That’s what it’s about. Hope you and your family wear in the best of times.

Great story and awesome gifts. I don’t know how you procure three watches in a year when I’ve not been able to get one in three years from an AD in Tampa. Either way, your luck is your children’s gain. What a Dad!

What a story! It sounds like you raised some really incredible kids. If I were you, I would not wait. They have already achieved what many won’t in a lifetime. A boost at this point won’t hurt.

Plus, I hate to be that guy but life is short and it is fragile.

Congratulations again on the watches and your achievements as a father. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome. Very cool. Might as well get yourself something as well to help them celebrate all of those achievements.

Amazing gifts for all three...but the best part of your story is that all three turned out with great heads. It would be safe to assume that because all three went through University/college and the fact that you can afford to buy three Rolex, your family in general is pretty well off. With that, lots of kids in a family with that type of security behind them could become, well, not successful and have no direction. Doug, you did well both as a father and a mentor!!! Amazing stuff.

What an awesome story, and what a great dad you are!

But, my vote would be to give the watches to all three of your kids this holiday season. The watches have a 5-year warranty, which will be 50% used up before the one kid gets the watch in 2027. I think all three of your kids should be able to enjoy them while they have a full warranty, just in case…

Pretty cool. I just give my kids watches that I have worn and buy new ones for me. Sentimental and selfish ;)
