Rolex Submarimer Glass replacement
Afternoon All,
Does anyone know roughly how much it would cost to replace the Glass on a Submariner? |

500 USD + if you can find the crystal (not from Rolex) and have a watchmaker replace it.
Otherwise you're looking at a full service from Rolex (800 USD +). RSC will not replace a crystal without also performing a full-service.

The crystal is around $125 and best left when you have a full RSC service as then no labour cost as they have to strip watch down.

I agree with Peter.
If all you have is a chipped sapphire edge or a scratched acrylic one, better to wait until time for a full service. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Definitely time to get that looked at. Misting up is not a good sign especially if you recently had it in the sea. Crystal is £96.00 + vat (or ballpark $120 + tax if you’re Stateside) Service cost £568 + vat. Due to collect mine from RSC St James London next week Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Misting up means water is getting in the case somehow. Watch needs to go to service to correct the problem. Unless you see damage to the crystal the problem may be coming from a seal somewhere no longer working.

Sounds more like a service than just a sapphire replacement.

Misting as the glass gets foggy? Try to put your watch in a colder environment to get the moisture on the glass, then put the watch in the sun. If it goes away, others comments were right. You have water and it’s time to get a service.

So just trying figure what would be a fair price taking into consideration the cost of repair and service |

Replacing the crystal on a Submariner typically costs around $300–$600 at a Rolex Service Center (RSC), depending on the extent of the work needed. This price usually includes a pressure test to ensure water resistance is maintained.
If the watch needs a full service alongside the crystal replacement, the cost could increase to around $800–$1,000+. It’s always best to check directly with an RSC or authorized dealer for an accurate quote based on your specific watch. |

OP, so now you’ve gone from replacing the crystal to water intrusion to not even owning the watch yet. Just walk away. There is no magic tipping point before purchase where price offsets the grief and risk of unknown service issues.

Rolex Submarimer Glass replacement
Since you've just joined TRF with this issue you mentioned, I would say this:
1. Be sure to vet the seller and have a foolproof return plan if this watch has been stolen. 2. Be sure the watch is authentic. 3. Find the lowest price for which the model sells on eBay (use their completed listings search feature). 4. If #s 1. & 2. above are good, then deduct $3000 from #3 as a hedge against an expensive RSC refurbishment that replaces many parts that could have rusted. Or... Find another watch to buy. Thank you everyone for your input. It’s been really helpful.
This person is willing to sell the submariner for around £2.5k. So just researching and trying to figure out if it’s worth the risk, or as some of you have said…just walk away |
