YachtMaster 42
Good morning.
Of all my Rolexes, the only one with which I seem to have lost money is my Yachtmaster 42 226659 in white gold. It is a magnificent watch, but yet it seems that it is unloved or even hated. Yet it is as elegant as a Daytona that everyone wants. Most people don't know what a Daytona is, but they want one. Strange, but what do you think of this Yachmaster 42? |

I think most get put off by the size on paper without having tried one on. I found it to wear very well almost the same as a 40mm sub. I think that was due to the blocky lugs on the 11 series subs and the sleeker lugs on the YM42. Depending on the direction my collection takes, I could see moving a few pieces and adding this one as my daily wearer.

I have s 40mm slate yachtmaster and my fiancee the 37mm, we love them. I also have a rose gold daytona on oysterflex and see the similarity you refer to.
The YM is a great watch. long may the disinterest continue. Most people want a sub. Yawn. methinks the whole catalogue is good and worth exploring. what size wrist do you have and whats the lug to lug on the 42mm v 40mm? |

YachtMaster 42
I like it a lot. Especially with the Falcon Eye dial.

Previous owner… I think it’s a great watch! Much better in person in my opinion.

Love it, would buy one - if it was more realistically priced - it's too much money for a lower-demand watch on rubber.

How did you lose money on it if you still have it?

I tried one on (it was available for purchase) and loved the fit and feel, but it just seemed to monochrome for me at the time.

I think it’s a great looking watch. Love both the WG and RG on OF. I tried the RG at the AD and thought it was stunning. Were it with pride.

YM 42 on OF is a great piece but not everyone’s cup of tea. I also think they are over priced for what they are, all OF models are overpriced in my opinion.
I would wear one in WG or RG either, I just can’t justify the price. There are allot of models that I would prefer in Rolex and other brands. I was offered one recently in RG 2024 full set in the low 20s and passed. As far as value this is not a piece you buy at the AD you will lose some as soon as you walk outside. Cheers, |

I personally love the Yacht-Master concept, but I really prefer the 40mm models. The problem with the Yacht-Master line as a whole is that it’s become a playground for Rolex to test drive changes that may or may not make it into another professional model. It doesn’t mean that there aren’t some really well executed Yacht-Master models. Unfortunately, the line as a whole lacks cohesion and identity which is why the Yacht-Master gets less love.
I think Rolex would be better served focusing on making the Yacht-Master a more versatile, upscale Submariner as it was originally intended. It’s why I like the stainless steel and two tone 40mm versions best. |

I was offered the WG 42 but passed: it was nice but I was enamored by the YG and the WG didn't draw me in. The premium over the YG was also a bit of a deterrent. I’m still pondering the YG 42 (I've not been offered one) but a RG 40 might work as nicely.

As others have mentioned, its price is too high. When it was first teased before introduction I was thinking if this is stainless steel it’s going to sell like crazy. Then it came out only in WG for over twice the price of the SS models. And so it lingers.
I love its looks but would never buy one. It’s a watch you should only buy if you love it, it will be hard to sell down the road. |

This is one of my personal favorites, perhaps even more so than the Daytona.

You can tell you really love it, you even take pictures of it while driving! Nothing says ‘I love my watch’ more than endangering myself and others for that all important wrist shot. Well played, Bro! By the way, every time I see you posting pics like this I’m commenting. Watch out for those kids crossing the road! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Honestly, people like you don't deserve to drive or be allowed to post this rubbish on such a forum. |

I am a YM Stan, and it's absolutely wild that arguably one of the most hated on models in the history of Rolex is getting this much love. It's a great piece.

IMHO it’s not really a fair comparison. The two share the same strap but that about it.
The YM has oversized plots and a flat black monochromatic bezel. My guess is that most folks spending that kind of money on a watch what something less utilitarian looking. To be clear I do like the YM and have never been a huge Daytona fan (earlier Zenith models excluded) |

It's alright, could buy it in steel if Rolex were to make it. In WG not so much, no wow factor to justify the price tag in my case.
I like the YM in general as an alternative to the Sub, and I still very much enjoy my monochromatic SS/PT 116622. |

I like the look. Sporty and somewhat under the radar but for the PM price point there's many other references I prefer.
