What should I get for my 16th B-day Next Year

As I have seen on the forum, most of you guys give your son a Rolex for his 16th Birthday. I'll be 16 next year, and I want a Rolex. Can you help me decide on which? I'll appreciate it very much!

Lol! I've been reading threads here of fathers buying Rolexes for their sons!

And in my family that happens also.

If your folks will buy you a platinum day date with diamonds I think you'll be doing ok......three of the watches you mention are well under 6 000, one is almost 30 000 lol. I'm just kidding, for a young fellow for sure the dub.

WTH are you talking about? Kids don't get Rolexes very often, even on this forum. And even if you see about it here please remember this forum in no way represents the general population.

You're spoiled rotten if you do get one as a kid, IMO. There's already an entitlement problem from the Millennials today. This sort of thing makes it worse.

Well I've always loved the Airking with a Engine turned bezel! I want something economical, not a 7,000 usd Rolex! that's to much! I'm ok with a AK or a Tudor!

Well I'm spoiled rotten then, I'm not the only 15 yr old kid here that has a Rolex! Kyle L has a Explorer I, a Schumacher Omega, A Tag Heuer, and much more! I have a 3rd hand Rolex! And I'm proud of being spoiled rotten! I'm sorry if this offended you but I'm just looking for advice! My dad offered me to buy me one for my 16th B-day.

Quoting JJ, "How the hell did I get dragged into this?"
Anyway, you are very lucky. My parents would never buy me a Rolex, they said I would have to save up my money, and I don't think I will have enough money anytime soon. Choose what you like, and let us know your choice!

No, I meant to say that they would never buy a Rolex for me. I had to buy them myself. Plus most of my watches are pre-owned, so some money saved there.

I started a thread about a similar subject (father/son watches), but my intent is to give it to him upon graduation from college (if he shows enough maturity), or upon getting married.

As a 16 year old, if your parents are handing out watches, get the Sub. What the hell do you want with a DD anyway?

Well Yeah, a DD is too much for me. A sub is a great choice but idk the retail of it here in PR.

How about waiting until you start working for a living, then buying one as a measure of your own success??

What a crass comment.....you know nothing about this young man.

Personally, I would say a helluva lot, and a whole lot more when his son turns 16, and he tells him about it.

I Know your Dad won't like it and you may not either DJ, but right here could be an excellent place for a very good deal. There are a handful of very good and trusty sellers with killer prices.

My son is 18 in a few days time......I thought about passing on the Rolex that is destined for him eventually........however I have decided that he is not ready yet....I do not feel he is mature enough....the watch destined for him is on my wrist now and will remain there (or in the safe) for the next three years......at 21 I will reconsider.......I got my first at 23, they had to sit me down in the local AD because I was shaking so badly, I bought the first one myself.......if your family consider you ready for a Rolex at 16 then that's great, you must be a very grown up young man, hats off to you.....my first was my avatar....the watch going to my eldest son (eventually) is the same 16030 model but a black dial.......a SS DateJust would be a very good starting point....just the right size for young man's wrist....classy....tough....timeless.....I still love mine after well over 20 years

I went one step further

When my other watch comes back from the AD I will find myself with an extraneous Rolex. I have only ever had/needed/wanted one.

I had considered saving it for a son for when he gets married or for a grandson upon graduation or some other such occasion.

I have since decided that a Rolex is NOT something to give to someone. (my opinion)

Any of the aforementioned children will have a much greater appreciation of such things if they acquire them on their own.

You should get YG DD. You'd be the only 16yo with a prez in your school.

Gabriel,

Don't let the mean-spirited haters get you down. Get whatever watch you would like and your parents are willing to buy for you. You seem to be partial to the Air-king so why not go for that?

Mean-spirited haters...:rofl :

He's doing a poll to get an idea of what he should tell someone else to buy him?!?!

It would appear as though all the posts are in the "spirit" intended.

It is to be given as a "gift", perhaps Gabriel and his Dad should go to the Ad and simply pick it out.

So what you are saying is anyone who posts who can't afford a Rolex and is being given one as a gift is deserving of ridicule?
