Search in the UK for a Daytona...
Sorry if this topic is a little common and/or tiresome!
I am looking to buy a Daytona in the next few weeks, or rather, in all likeliness get on the list to buy a Daytona! I have been looking at prices in the UK for Daytonas and if you want a new one tomorrow £7500 seems about the going rate. I have heard all the horrifying posts about 5 year waiting lists, and thought I would drop in to my local AD. "Good day Sir, I was rather hoping that you could tell me you have a brand new Daytona out the back which a customer ordered a few years ago and now cannot afford, and you are happy to pass on to me for RRP?!" Cue a tight smile and gentle shake of the head. I had a good chat with the AD, and he informed me that, if I put down a £500 (returnable) deposit, and can prove that I live nearby, he is happy to pick up the phone and sort out a Daytona for me in about 12 months. He asked me not to shout it out, but felt confident that, providing I'm not fussy about face colour, 12 months should be about the longest I should be waiting at this point in time. As I cannot make my mind up about which face I would rather have - I love them both - this seems reasonable to me. I won't mention exactly where I live or who the AD is, but I thought this was pretty good. Hopefully I will be laying the deposit down in the next few weeks. I would be interested to hear people's thoughts on this. Am I being led on, are Daytonas becoming more easily available (Internet prices certainly do not seem to reflect this) does my AD simply like the cut of my jib, or is this all so much marketing guff? If it is the final option, it seems surprising because I could wear it for 12 months and, providing it was in good nick, sell it and get back what I paid for it! According to my AD the current RRP is £6170 for a SS. -JB |

Just picked up my SS Daytona today, see other thread, and I was on their list for approx 15 months. The AD did advise that quite a few people passed over the opportunity to purchase when called no doubt because of the downturn, hefty price rises and the fact that an instant £1,500 profit are no longer available (probably only £500 for a private seller).
Whilst I offered to give a deposit to the AD when I put my name down it was not accepted however this might start to happen to sort out the genuine buyers from the flippers et al. I think that a list price SS Daytona within 12 months, whatever that list price might be (price and VAT increases), is a realistic proposition in the current climate. |

with the currebt recession, who knows how many price increases there will be in the UK. who know, you may be lucky in finding one within the next 12 months, if you do, you can always get your deposit back as for which face, im sure there is a way to change it after you have located one. good luck mate, and oh, welcome to this mad house - you will love it. ps - obviously a grey dealer is not an option? pps - thought about the US option? it'd worth it if you have an US trip planned |

You can pick up a new piece from one of the guys in Burlington Arcade. The Daytonas I saw today all come with papers, box etc and are from 2009. The average price was about 7,250. I am going to Singapore over Christmas so hope to pick one up out there, but prices are very likely to increase before then (10-15%) so better strike now as the increase will also affect the second-hand / grey market. Good luck. |

Also earning interest on a small deposit in this low interest era does not seem like a viable business proposition for any AD to be bothered with. |

Read with interest the posts above. One thing which no one has mentioned to date is that if you are going to sit on an AD's waiting list (incidentally, I waited 18 months for my SS Daytona), you are likely to suffer a couple of price rises between now and when you eventually get it from the AD. For example, the price rose from £4850 on the March 2008 price list when I put my name on the list to £6170 now. Given VAT is due to go back to 17.5% on Jan 1st (unless the government delays this), that would take the RRP up to £6310 without Rolex themselves increasing the price. On past records, it is highly likely that there will be another Rolex Price rise between now and the end of 2010 which could edge the price ever closer to £7000. As a consequence, £7200 now for the dial face colour you want now may not be quite as expensive as it seems.

From 01 to 05 i could make 2k on each one but now its down to £600 due to supply and demand,Fact is dealers were getting zenith daytona 16520 at 2 a year and with the inhouse Rolex movement 116520 production has increased and from my AD telling me he went to 4 116520 a year now he gets one every other month 6 a year the price for greys has fallen .I was selling to David duggan in 2001 and he was selling them all day at £7500 they are still around that now but list price has risen from £3670 to £6170 a increase of £2500 thats come out of our margins/profit |

There is a well known eBay seller, with a bricks and mortar store, advertising both white and black V serial SS Daytona's with the new style clasp for £7,095. |

Wow, interesting. Thanks for the replies guys, has given me food for thought. I am staying with one of my brothers in Devon at the moment, there is an AD nearby who I know a little. I may drop in and see what they say about getting one - that is, whether they can also offer me one within 12 months. Some conflicting advice there though... I can't help feeling that Rolex may well put the price up though. I am off visiting my Bro in north america early next year, maybe I could pick one up there?!
...if I can wait that long that is! kind regards -JB |

I used to look at the for sale board on here in utter amazement at the sheer number of US BNIB SS Daytona's for sale but, is it me?, there don't appear to nearly as many now. It is highly likely that there will be a UK Rolex price rise within the next 12 months however if you're going to be in the US I would definitely have a go at trying to pick one up and get your deposit back if you do. |

I know for a fact that supply has greatly increased in the UK over the past few months, probably due to the collapse in demand in the US. My AD has had their best ever year in terms of numbers of Daytonas, but unfortunately, there are still 40 odd people on the list. If you can get onto a relatively short list, you might be able to get hold of one sooner than you might think

I have got my name down on the waiting list with one of the AD's in Devon (none of those mentioned) and have been for the past 18months.
Although I am considering passing on it when it arrives. As I believe that the MRSP is now far too high for what is a S/S watch.

As I already got mine yesterday who is going to call them tomorrow if only to find out if it's true! As it would certainly be a first for the UK at least.

The advert was put on this thread for GENUINE Rolex fans to have a heads up, not for a bloody DEALER to go in and buy both. Bang out of order IMHO |

Would anyone recommend buying a Daytona from the far East? I have been offered one from Hong Kong, imported to the UK. Brand new. Just over £7K.

Personally I would not if you can get a UK sourced model from a reputable grey dealer for similar money. Why not PM Scooba and see if he has got one of those for sale as advertised above.
