Need advice 2014 vs. 2019 Hulk (116610LV)

New to the forum and newbie to Rolex. In market new/used Hulk 116610LV and noticed several Pledge Member offering new and mint condition (2014-2018) Hulk for sale. Given it has same movement 3135 any issues getting 2014 vs. 2019. Price difference is $1K-$2K. Many thanks for your input.

Cheers,
David

The newer, the longer the factory warranty, the more $$.

The additional warranty on a newer watch is reflected in the price. The question is do you want the piece of mind the extra cash will buy or do you want to save some money and risk having to service the watch. A 2014 depending on how it’s running, may be due for service ($800-$1000) Just a thought

I'm guessing your question is which watch you should choose?

You're paying extra for the warranty. If you know a qualified watchmaker in your nearest city, you could save $$$ by opting for the 2014. A word of warning, though- the difference between a '14 model and a '19 model should exceed $1-2K. If the difference is a mere $1K, the '14 is priced too high.

Many on here will say the Hulk is not obtainable via an AD at MSRP. But there are many family owned ADs near Chicago...when I say near I am thinking Ohio and Iowa.

If you get the chance to introduce yourself to one of these family ADs in a smaller market...do it. Say you are new to the area and talk watches. You will get a call for Hulk in under 6 weeks. Smaller AD markets do not have the demand as larger markets. Just so many Hulks can be sold in smaller markets so you will be on a short list if one even exists.

The hunt and the thrill of the chase are not for everyone but this method has enabled me to acquire a few sought after pieces this year. Arkansas and Montana are also good states with family ADs. I travel quite a bit so I have the opportunity to meet the small family owned ADs.

Pretty sure these family owned ADs do not sell to greys. They seem to really want to establish long term relationships. Heck there are some of these guys I have lunch or play around of golf with when I am in town.

The only thing that I do that one could question my ethics on is that each of these ADs think I am local.

But I kinda liken this to using a deer blind or duck call when I hunt. This year I bagged my limit of 4.

Same applies to cars, unless buying vintage (which is different) buy the newest you can afford.

Another consideration is that the excellent/mint condition 2014 Hulk has probably been polished by the reseller... a well-done polish is not as big of a deal on the 6-digit models as it is with some of the older models, but I think such should be considered and reflected in the price.

A 2014 mint is a watch that has been worn for years and then polished.

The newer, the less likely you will like it when it’s angry.

Mine is a 2012. It still looks great, and keeps time to plus 1-2 seconds a day.

The pre-2015 models generally have a space between the 300 and the m. That's a main difference. Also, you are 5 years closer to needing a service.

May or June 2015 is when Rolex changed to a 5 year warranty (previously 2 years). We are still in the time period (2015-2020) where any watch after that date is still under warranty and any watch before that date no longer has a warranty.

The older watch may look mint but there is a greater chance that someone mishandled it or polished it due simply to the period of time elapsed. The chances of you finding an untouched "mint" 2014 watch are low in this market.

The 2014 may have been polished and it is closer to needing a service. I would hold out for new from AD.
