Blackberry question

I just got a new Blackberry Curve (Nextel version) for work.

Question is - can I have more than 1 email account on it?

Since my work account is through the State of FL, all emails are public record so I'd like to use a 2nd account on it as well...

I suspect your setup is tied to your work server and the BB server. I am precluded from adding another account or forwarding personal mail to mine. You may be able to do that, but unless I'm misinformed, there is no way it isn't going to ride on the work server and thus be property of your office, etc.

Thanks Matt. That's what I was thinking too

I have an iPhone, but it doesn't push my mail so it only comes every so often. I the Curve though!

As far as I know, sure. I have several email accounts on mine with no problems. One is from my work, two other's personal. Go into your selling dealer and ask them to help you set up another account.

Sadly, the comms are tied to your work server and the BB servers. I wouldn't be surprised if the state also has the same security concerns and protocols of a Fortune 500 company that limits your flexibility as an employee.

I have a personal iPhone and a work BB too. Have you thought to set the iPhone to look for mail more frequently? Hope that was what you were saying. Just a battery issue.

There is no selling dealer, it's the State IT dept. These are totally different setups from a BB linked to your AOL account. Personal emails just might be able to get forwarded, though I suspect that's not allowed. The point, and the answer to her question, is that if it arrives on the BB it came from the BB server linked to the work server, so it's no longer her property and she's not entitled to any expectation of privacy on a state IT asset provided solely to facilitate official duties.

I have my work account through the company BES server and I setup my AOL to appear as a separate account on my BB. I have one icon for all messages that come to my BB and the AOL icon for just sending and receiving AOL messages. When I want to send a work email I send it from the default mailbox. When I want to send a personal email I do it from the AOL account. The AOL emails do not show up on my Outlook mailbox at work. So they are separate.
It's fairly easy to setup on your BB. It should walk you through the configuration.

if you ever have any questions about a bb just go here and all will be answered. i have owned at least a dozen bb's and have been a long time member of this forum.

You can have several accounts on your blackberry. Your e-mail set-up wizard should be able to walk you through it! It's very easy! Goodluck.

I'd be surprised if you couldn't add a personal account. I actually use BIS so it's not an issue. Been a BB user for 3-4 yrs now and I am ADDICTED! Push email ROCKS!!!!!!

What's possible and what's allowable on her work-issued equipment are two different things. I was going to post my corp. policy (industry best practice)on this issue, but it doesn't matter in her case. I highly suspect their policy is similar though and would not allow it.

The bottom line is when you are issued IT equipment from your company or gov't agency THEY own it and set the ground rules for its use. It's not if you can technically do it, ( you and also easily induce a virus on your work network with private files loaded from a "stick") but is it allowed, and MOST importantly to her point, are you entitled to any expectation of privacy on the personal emails flowing to and from the device? No.
