5513 vs 16520
Hi guys, I'd like your opinion. Whatever the money side, would you sell a 5513 meter first to get a 16520 black, inverted 6? Yes ? No ? Why ? Thanks !

No, 4 digit is always better than 5 digit in my eyes.

It depends on the trade difference and overall condition of each piece. I have a 5513 maxi and white dialed 16520. I enjoy both and the 5513 has more of a full vintage feel, if that’s important to you. Both are great models.

If your 5513 is all original and in good condition then, no.

For me it depends on which you prefer. I would go with 5513. But up to you.

Since I’m partial to white dials and yours is a full set then I say no.

I think it depends on the numbers. Both great watches. Which do you want?

i love any red or meters first sub.
disregarding condition (i know, hard to do for WISers), i think there are far less inverted 6s 16520s out there but i could be wrong. many people forgot just how hard it was to obtain 16520s from 1988-1999 production run. Even PM models were tough to find at ADs. Zenith only sold Rolex so many movements per year as they had other customers and then factor in the time it took rolex to edit the movement. can someone who knows both these models chime in? |

It sounds like you want a 16520 and are seeking opinions that either support your desire or a valid reason why you shouldn't.
regardless, if you didn't own either, and you can have only one, which would it be? Get that one. |

5513 vs 16520
Would help to see pics of each and the trade deal. I do like the unpolished aspect of the 16520 over polished with papers...if all things were equal and comparing similar models, which these are not. If the deal seems reasonable, I would prefer the unpolished 16520 myself over a polished 5513 MF.

i picked up an unpolished A-serial 16520 two weeks ago. they are hard to find. my watch looks terrible from w/in 10" away but still beautiful. nice to see the true case design and clasp detail intended.
having said that, i've also seen and purchased polished watches that were done lightly / correctly. prob is too any folks butcher cases. we would need to see pics of both watches the OP is talking about. Quote:

Indeed, I want the 16520. Regarding the one I want the most, I'd say the daytona, I guess because I don't have it...if I had the daytona maybe I'd more go for a 5513 I wouldn't own...that's for me the problem...I always have the ffeling to wish more for the watch I do not have yet...that's why I'm asking for opinions here... Thank y'all for your answers...

5513 : 18500€, slightly polished + papers, probably a later box... 16520 : 22500€, unpolished but worn, naked, but as soon as I wish to have it serviced by Rolex, I'd get a service card which is for me (and I guess not only for me) even better than the original papers (that can be fake...). https://ibb.co/Hh7wcsY https://ibb.co/R9CZGsW https://ibb.co/sVZcxyh https://ibb.co/YD10t1w https://ibb.co/MfDMRSd https://ibb.co/tmKMBjS Thanks buddies ! |

Both are very nice...id say the Daytona has a had a light polish in the past or at least the bezel because the edges of the numbers and words show slight roundness to them...I have a few NOS bezels to compare it to...that being said the dial looks amazing. I like the trade even but adding 4K euro is a different story. Both are very nice watches

Thanks for the pics. Both of these are really nice. Your 5513 has a great dial, hands and solid case it appears from the two pics. I think the crystal appears to be a service replacement and not a T19 superdome? Hard to tell if the 16520 bezel has really been polished or if it’s just the light and angle making it appear possible. The bezel edge looks consistent and not warped, has a few marks, as does the crystal. The one lug pic looks sharp at the tip, which would be correct. It would be good to see each of the lug tips to compare the consistency. If you can confirm it’s unpolished with an inspection period, I would be ok buying to see in person if it’s a solid seller allowing a return. I would also try to close the gap a bit in the buy and sell side if you proceed. If you do get the 16520 and send to Rolex, be very clear not to let them polish it!

This is like asking if you want steak or chicken for dinner. Two very different watches that are both great. Sometimes it might depend on mood/occasion when you'd want to wear a vintage Sub or a classic Zenith Daytona. And if you can only have one, it's a personal decision based on preference.
However, one thing would bug me about the 16520 ... that watch has been polished, IMHO, which in itself isn't a big deal ... except when a seller claims otherwise and is trying to charge more because of it. It's an old story, but "unpolished" is way over-used and very often inaccurate on these old watches. That example is certainly nice, but I see a watch that has been polished. Unless your 16520 has lugs and crown guards that look like this example, it's most likely been polished. These are borrowed photos of a confirmed untouched 16520. Look how thick and sharp these lugs are. |

These days I find myself sporting my 5 digit and even moderns alot simply for the durability, water resistance, etc. The other watches you have in your collection also would play a role in this decision. If you find that the Daytona would give you more joy, by all means make the trade. I don't think its a silly move. The only thing I would like to add in addition to what Aaron said is that with zeniths and Daytonas particularly it is very difficult to tell whether "unpolished" or not. Bare in mind a early serial will naturally have a slimmer profile than one on an later A series. It was not different on vintage Daytonas either with regards to later cases being slightly larger, as with subs, etc etc. The profiles did change. That particular zenith looks very nice to me, I really don't know about the market and I am not talking much about the difference in price that you would have to top up, but regarding the trade itself, I would probably make the trade if you felt the zenith would get more "wear". |
