Thoughts on a YG President

Great forum here, loved reading over the past few years. This is my first post.

I own my fair share of timepieces and have realized that I wear rolex' less and less (P-masterpiece, YG President). Especially the 83858 YG day date president, with diamond dial, diamond lugs and diamond bezel. It looks great and has little wear in the band, it's just that it doesn't feel 'right', for me, to drive the ferrari and wear these watches with so many people/friends hurting so badly. I've given it a lot of thought and I would like to sell the YG President.

Before I walk into a watch store and talk to them about the watch I figured the Rolexforums website would be the wise first stop, given all the watch gurus here.

What do you see the value of a watch like this now? Do you anticipate a change in price in the near future given the macro economic crisis or day-date-2 line?

Welcome and thank you for posting. The decision on selling a timepiece is very personal; I would say that if you like the watch, keep it. As far as pricing, Rolex always increases prices, 1 to 2 times a year, so pre-owned prices increase as well. I am sure some members here will be able to put some figures in for you, however a picture will be very helpful.

I don't think you should sell it or not wear it based on the economic/life choices of OTHER people. It's your crown, you earned it, wear it!

1) Do NOT sell it in a store, sell it online. You will get better money, stores rob you.

2) The President (especially with diamonds) has the highest markup and lowest resale. I am sure you have watches that cost more and are "better"" but the President is a true classic. I would not sell it unless you needed the money. Someday it would make an amazing gift for a son if you have one as a hallmark gift (finishing grad school or something)

that is a nice watch, you should keeep it buddy. But if you have to sell it, sell it to a private party rather than to a store. You will make more $$ that way.

Welcome to the forum. I'm trying to follow your logic here and I am at a loss?

So you don't want to wear your Rolex because people are hurting from the current economic situation and you feel driving around in your Ferrari wearing a Timex instead of a Rolex is going to to help them how?

Are you planning on selling off your car, beach house etc too? Is your financial position suffering? If you need to sell off your personal luxury items to support yourself or your friends/loved ones I get it but if this not the case than what are you going to accomplish by selling your watch?

Are you going to give the proceeds of the sale of your watch to charity or to help those friends of yours in need? If not, then what's the point of selling it as it isn't going to easy the financial suffering of these friends/loved ones.

Since you've already decided to sell it, check here/timezone/watchnet for other listing prices - I'm not familiar with that exact model's pricing.

FWIW, I don't give a hoot about this movement towards toning everything down.

Need pics for an idea of the value, but seriously, I'm not a big fan of your logic here. Would you want your kid dumbing themselves down to getting B's and C's to make others in the class feel good when they're perfectly capable of getting A's? When I saw someone driving a Porsche years ago I didn't think I was a victim of circumstance. I thought, well if they can do it, so I can I. And I worked until I could pay cash for my dream Porsche. You never know, someone seeing your watch or car could signal to someone that there's still money out there to be made and they'd pick themselves up by the boot straps and get out there and be someone.

keep it. I don't know what's your age but YG President Day Date and you will come of age. It will be a watch for great occasion. If you feel hurting friends wearing it, just store it. Whatever you wear is your choice, buddy.

I know this thread is old, but I had to respond. Chozn1 - I couldn't have said it better myself!

Jason - don't sell the watch because you feel guilty wearing it. It sounds to me like you're still attached to the watch (since you mentioned a lot of thought went behind your decision to sell). Also, don't downplay your success because of the economy. The last thing the economy needs is people looking less successful. We need people looking _more_ successful. I'm not going to hold off my plans of getting my YG DD (my dream watch ) just because the economy is bad. And, when I get it, I'm certainly not going to keep it in the box just because some people are down on their luck lately. I'm going to wear it loudly and proudly! If I saw _you_ on the street wearing your DD in your Ferrari, I wouldn't feel resentment simply because you have one and I don't. In fact, it would make me work harder so I can get mine sooner!

So all in all, Jason, please don't sell your watch for the reasons you've stated. You wouldn't be doing anybody any good by doing so.

Exactly, and thanks. Everyone's looking for good news right now. A little gold on someone's wrist might get someone thinking things are starting to turn for the better and get off the sidelines.

Without getting into a thread hijack about social and economical injusticies and the like, just let me say, do not sell your hard earned possessions for the reason you stated. America isn't about guilt for success, although many would like it to be so.
