*UPDATE* Bought a Rolex for the wife!
Ahh, the fickleness of our better haves. The mystery of this phenomenon still alludes me after 10 years of thinking you know them. I do say this with nothing but!!
So, as I mentioned in my last post I took my wife "window shopping" to get a feel for her taste in watches. We stopped by an AD at MOA and she said she mentioned her favorite looking Rolex was a SS Datejust, smooth bezel, oyster bracelet with a metal dial in either a salmon or silver. OK..So I have been searching for one as a surprise for her upcoming B Day. Along the way she sees me looking at watches on line and points out a TT Rose gold Datjust that looks "very pretty". I say I didn't think you liked TT? She comes back "I do like that one" It has diamonds on the hour markers. I say I didn't think you liked diamonds? She says "Of course I like diamonds. What girl doesn't like them. I didn't mention it because they are expensive". So to recap; forget the SS, would like a TT RG Datejust, smooth bezel, oyster bracelet with diamonds. Same token, a friend of a friend's wife has a SS Datejust as her daily watch. She has commented time and again she would like a dressier Rolex like his TT DJ. He takes the hint and buys her for their anniversary last year a 31mm TT RG DJ with a silver concentric dial. She tells him she loves it but never takes the stickers off it or sizes it. So far has spent 100% time in their safe. He finally asks her a few weeks ago why she never wears it. She says sheepishly she loves the thought but thinks it's too big at 31mm and doesn't think she will ever wear it. He says" WHY WOULDN'T YOU TELL ME?" He isn't mad but it's a lot of money to let sit in a safe forever so she says she didn't want to hurt his feelings. Come on ladies, we guys are practical. I wouldn't be mad if I was in his shoes. I would have said "Great, lets get you what you want". And he is. My friend told me about this watch because his buddy was going to trade it in. I called his friend who is a very nice guy. Sends me pics, etc. and we struck a deal. It is being over nighted Monday. I have made a few inquiries as to purchasing the diamond dial and I will have it all ready for her B day in a few weeks. So guys, the lesson here is more often than not what your gal may say isn't what she really means and gals, tell us the TRUTH so we know what you really want! Will post pics of it when it gets here. This is what it looks like:

VERY similar to my wife's! Hers is 26mm though. I guess we'll have to invite them both to our next GTG. I say we meet downtown?

I can't say I blame her. It IS a stunning dial. I bet our AD could source one, albeit at MSRP. Lemme know how things turn out - it's ironic that our wives may have the same style watch!

Great choice,, congratulations and may she wear it in good health.
Purchased almost the same watch for my wife in St Thomas 2 years ago and she loves the Everose gold, it looks better in real life. Pictures don't do it justice. |

I thought about calling our Ad, David but I KNOW I can get one from another source at a better price. MSRP is like $2500 so I'll check around. Our local expert here has offered to help and I will call my friend Bill the watchbroker and see what he has too. Thanks Karis. My only slight concern is the 31mm size. I don't think it will be an issue as it still is pretty small. When she tried on a Ladies YM at 29mm it wasn't big so I think I will be OK. She doesn't have litle wrists and isn't used to wearing a watch period so it's not like she is going from a 26mm to a bigger watch.

Didn't realize the dial was so expensive! I'm guessing you CAN find one at a better price then!

Rolex charges more for the dial to buy it as a part then if you get it with a watch.

What a fantastic DJ, David. You are "golden" now, my man!!!
I did a similar thing on my wife's retirement. "Nothing for me, thanks" she says. Riiiiight! Here's what she got:

I got used to it in no time and now I wouldn't trade it for anything. I know a few women who wear Rolexes, but I'm the only one with a midsize. It's nice to be different. Jeannie |

OH MY!! Just opened the box and I am like WOW!
What a pretty, elegant watch. As someone mentioned, pictures don't do the rose gold justice. I don't have a camera with me but will shoot pictures of it when I get home. The seller's description was 100%. All stickers are on and it is NEW. I have to say, my intention is to get her a diamond dial and I still will but the concentric dial is much prettier in person than from it's photo. I didn't think I would like it but surprisingly, I do. It's going to be so hard not to show it to her till the 24th.. I hope she likes it as much as I do cuz it's one prettttty watch.
