2 Services in 8 Years?? Black Submariner 2 Tone Ceramic 116613LN w/ Diamond Dial
Guys and Gals I own a Black Submariner Two Tone Ceramic 116613LN with Diamond Dial. I’ve owned it for 8 Years and it has stopped working every 4 years since new. This is the second time I’ve had to send it in for an overhaul back to Rolex. It had pretty much the same problem both times. The first time I pulled out the crown and it wouldn’t wind. Sent it in to Rolex they did a full refinish and overhaul and it worked great for the last 4 years. Couple days ago I pulled out the crown and it would wind but it wouldn’t pull out to the second part for the date change or to the third part to set the time. Only the winding first stage of pulling it out work would. So I sent it to Rolex through my AD again and it’s probably going to be another $650 like last time for a refinish and overhaul.
Is anyone else getting only 4 years before things like this happen where you have to send it back as the watch won’t wind, set time, etc. Call me crazy but spending $650 every 4 years seems excessive. I’m wondering if part of the problem is I only wear the watch on the weekends so I have to wind it every Friday and re set the date and time. I’m wondering if not daily wearing it and not having a watch winder is causing me these issues. Maybe me having to pull the crown out every single Friday to set it is causing it to not make it to the recommended 7-10 years that your supposed to have them serviced? I can’t wear it during the week so let me know your opinions on all of this and if a I should invest in a watch winder. If so which one and which settings to use? Thanks in advance for any and all help!

Wasn't it covered under warranty the first time you sent it in (after 4 years)? Just wondering...

Why can't you wear it during the week?
I had a similar issue on my sub once, the crown seemingly got stuck in the first position. I pushed it back in and tried again and it went away. Did they give you any insight when you sent it in the first time?

Just not a watch I would wear for my job. Would get beat up way too much. No insight the first time unfortunately. I tried for days to make it work and couldn’t. The AD couldn’t also.

Not normal at all. However I think that constant use is probably better for the watch. My 1680 sub ran nonstop for forty years and was only hand-wound a few times and only reset at end of short months.
I’d invest in a winder or at least wear it when you come home from work.

I think constant use or no use at all would be technically better than setting and winding every single week through all the years.
Remember we correct the date on a watch 5 times a year (every month thats not 31 days) Youre doing every single week. Thats 50 times a year. Ten times more than whats expected. 50 times a year. 200 times in 4 years. But however harsh that may be, a Rolex is supposed to withstand that too, assuming youre doing it gently and not between 10pm and 2am. Just saying.. |
