Bicycling
Today it was in the 60's here outside of Chicago so I went for my first ride of the season. The wind was tough but I got in a medium length ride. It will take me about 700 to 800 miles to get my legs in shape but once I do look out!!!
All I can say is bring on the warm weather and riding for 4-6 hours a day.

Good for you, Leo. I used to ride a lot before we had kids - averaged 100 miles a week during the summer. Now, if I'm lucky I'll get out for a short jaunt with the baby in the bike trailer.... never can go very far, but pulling the extra weight helps give a little workout anyhow.
Do you ride with a group, or go solo? |

I wish you well in your motivation to become a cycling dude
I too have the desire to get back into a proper training regime as I am now very overweight and unfit. I think I will start off with just a little every day, no requirements for a miniumum time, if I do that I am likely to become demotivated. Just ride a little very day, even 10 minutes, and go from there.

I ride all year long, either inside or out. Yesterday was 65 degrees and sunny. What a great ride with many others out smiling from ear to ear. I've been lucky to find more than a few nice days to get out. A bad ride outside beats the best inside ride by miles dummy::[pun intended]

Dan, I agree I really like riding outside over an indoor trainer. As for therapy, I have severe Rheumatoid Arthritis so cycling is great for my legs and upper body. My major problem is its very hard on my wrists(supporting my upper body weight). My right wrist and thumb are permanently dislocated so I do get quite a bit of pain riding!!!

Nice ride Leo. Cycling is the best way to keep in condition. I love it. Outside is best but, I'll take the turbo trainer over nothing, just to keep the legs spinning. The weather over here has been really bad, still is, and it makes it virtually impossible to ride in.
The roads around here are appalling and I tend to spend more time standing on the pedals to stop the tender bits getting a jolt as another pot hole arrives than in the saddle. Or avoiding them! We have a fair few stonking hills around here, that are real steep and I tend to pit those in the training ride loop , with a few sprints in between. Then its time for 5 minutes rest, a drink and pass the time of day with someone. Very civilised. Its great for loosening those joints so best of luck and keep us informed of how its going Good riding!! Si

Si, bicycling is great therapy for whatever ails you(Dan=mental). The weather here is not very good in the early spring(today is rain and 40F) but I do get out when I can. And winter is brutal on the roads, the pot holes even have pot holes!!!
