Sea Dweller - 126660
I’ve been popping into my AD now for some time trying to get on the Rolex ladder and today the gent has rang me said they have a Sea Dweller come up for sale. As a newbie I had my heart set on a Sub. Would this watch be just as good as an investment?

Welcome to the forum, but a word of advice- Best you don’t use the word ‘investment’
folks here like watches for the watch, not the return. That said, you’ll not lose money on the SD. It is a 43mm and the sub is 40, so it may look big depending on what you’re used to, but it does have great slender lugs. You should certainly try it on if that is an option. It is a beautiful watch. |

I don’t think either one is a good investment. Not even close. They are good purchases because of you decide to sell it you won’t take a big loss. But you won’t make money unless you hold it for decades. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If you want a Sub, buy a Sub and not a SDDS.

My JC DSSD is my favorite watch. The whole investment idea is so weird just because some Rolexes hold their value over time. I have an online stock portfolio I call my watch fund. When cash builds up, i buy another watch. Now that’s a good investment...

Go try the watch on and see if it works for you. Remember the AD's will not typically adjust watches that you have not purchased so the watch will move around on your wrist and seem too large. It typically is not, just not adjusted.

DSSD isn’t too hard to get. It’s a big watch. I own one.
Invest elsewhere, buy a watch you will enjoy, and be lucky not to lose your ass on it when you sell it. |

Sea Dweller vs Sub
A unique and almost crazy reason why I chose a SD43
I have always loved the iconic Sub/oyster bracelet look and form factor but had never owned one simply because growing up in Miami it was the defacto standard worn by a significant amount (all) of the local Miami men. So, SS Daytona, SS Yachtmaster, Explorer II have all been in my history. A month ago a dear friend offered me a SD43 (Mk1) super minty and I jumped on it. It is not a sub.. it is a large super wrist presence Rolex Dive watch that believe it or not gets more attention then my collection of RG GMT, RG Sky, SS Sky, RG Day Date. |

I had one and sold it, it’s a big watch and too much presence for my test. I much prefer the sub.

Welcome to TRF...in case you couldn't tell, asking enthusiasts about whether or not something is a good "investment" is a bit of a sore subject around here. My advice is pick the one you like the most, both will likely hold their value over time.
