Beautiful three gold sub dials brilliantly contrasting with the main black dial of the watch. Let it wear well!

nice watch. question that I have. how did this watch dial get to become known as PND? When I think of PND dials I think of the exotic font you'd find on a 6264. I've seen this watch referred to as PND a few times, so I am curious to know.

This isn’t a Paul Newman in my mind either. But what do I know.

I am in no way an historian or a vintage Rolex specialist but to my understanding this reference and combination borrows elements found on the so called PN dials and watches. Elements like the matte black dial, the red minute track, it is also reminiscent of the yellow gold JPS PN. Again not the textbook definition of a Paul Newman Daytona (as you say no exotic font) but IMHO the one that is closest in the current lineup of PM Daytonas (hence the nickname by the community). Also none other IMHO captures the essence of golden era Motorsport quite like this one... If there is a vintage Rolex specialist/historian please feel free to correct and/or elaborate. |

Thanks for your message, I was back at my AD in Paris in December to pickup 2 watches that were waiting for me while we were talking, talking, catching up having a laugh, long story short, the director leaves me for 5mins comes back to tell me they have just received the end of year delivery from Rolex and that they got 1 of each PM Oysterflex Daytona. 5mins later all these beauties were on a tray for me to try...twist my arm right? The clear match for me was the 116518LN PN, loved it but a little conscience in my head (and a long list of Christmas and birthday gifts to make) and the fact that I was already picking up 2 watches that same day, stopped me from pulling the trigger at that time and the watch got sold the moment I said no thank you. Fast forward to the beginning of the summer my AD said that they have received a new delivery with this reference if I wanted it it was mine, again bad timing as I picked up my AP ROO literally 1 week before, I hesitated a long time and had to say no thank you again! My AD and I have a very strong and open trust relationship, if we commit we commit so no problem at all again the watch got sold right away. Fast forward to now, I said to my AD : look I love the watch I don’t have any PM Daytonas nor Oysterflex watches, missed already the opportunity twice, I am committed to it now. So they worked some magic and got me one 1 week after I committed to it. Absolutely no regrets now, I can tell you this!!! |
