Text Syncing between iPad & Droid Phone?

My brother called me and said his computer died and wanted to know what I thought he should get to replace it. He’s older (73) and retired. He said he only needs something for texting, emails and ability to use Zoom. I suggested an iPad instead of a computer and, coincidentally, I bought myself a new one last week. Told him he could have my old one. He accepted.
I went over and set it up for him but had one “glitch”. He uses a Samsung phone and I don’t know if you can get texts to both devices as you would if they were both Apple products. I’ve done some looking online but haven’t found an answer yet. Anyone know if this can be done? TIA!

If you mean iMessage then no that’s driven by iCloud and only on the Apple ecosystem. Could be a good idea for an Xmas iPhone gift

On an iPad? It needs a mobile number to activate.

Before foisting WhatsApp into your brother’s iPad and Android phone - read the T&Cs and the security breaches.

I’d also suggest looking at Signal to be ahead of the impending new issues when WhatsApp gets blended into FB Messenger and IG’s DM.
