VC Overseas Blue dial as AP RO Blue alternative

I had looked at a RG PC VC (lots of letters there!).

The bezel design of VC just didn’t do anything for me though. Reminds me of like a Star Wars insignia or door lock. Just me though.

I think your picture says it all. The appearance of symmetry is much better with how VC has chosen to do the date window in white.

Seeing your silver AP gives me more appreciation for it. The blue has always been the one to catch my eye, but how the silver plays with the light on yours is very nice. Nice collection btw.

Have had wrist time with all of the Overseas SS models. IMHO the 3 hander is the weakest of the bunch with the dual time being a stunner in Blue and the chronograph looks great in every color.

If it’s a fight between 15500 and 4500V, 15500 takes it for me in any dial color.

It’s weird because I usually always go for a 3 hander as an entry point with a model line but in the case of the OS, I’m skipping it and going for the DT first.

I would second the choice of the dual time over the 4500. The added function is handy yet the the dial does not get too busy. I have in fact tried this piece on. Initially I was put off by the blue color because it is neither matte or sunburst like I used to see with other brands, but after a while it is very unique finish to VC and FJ only. Plus this is attainable than the AP Blue and its strap conversion feature makes it versatile.

I have the 2nd gen VCOS chronograph on black dial and the 15500st on silver dial.
to be honest both watches are near perfection
the 2nd gen VCOS have a huge advantage and huge disadvantage over 3rd gen, huge advantage being that it has a very slim profile compared to 3rd gen. and it also uses colum wheel chronograph technology (FP movement) which means you could literally leave the chrono running the whole time without actual wear and tear on the movement.
the biggest disadvantage is the no quick strap change function.

I always liked, not loved the AP so not enough interest for me to get into that fight. Once I really saw the Overseas it was all over for me, however I preferred to have the black dial. 14 mos on my 7" wrist and it keeps getting better.

I have to say if the dial on the VC Overseas 4500v Blue is similar to that of the dial on the FPJ Chronometre Blue, then I may be sold on the VC. I saw the FPJ at a dealer last year (should have pulled the trigger). That blue dial is one of the best I have seen.

After the storm is over, I will head into the AP Boutique to see if they have something to show me in the RO line. After that I will make a decision.

I have both the blue AP 15500 and the blue Vacheron 4500V....they’re very different watches that I think can both live together in a collection.

The VC is way way more understated than the RO. It has tremendous detail, but presents that detail in a way that reveals itself slowly over time. The detail is there largely for the wearer alone, vs others. The 15500 on the other hand, is more flashy (not necessarily a bad thing) - it is also incredibly detailed, but it presents those details for you the wearer and the world. The water resistance of the watch and the strap changes make it a more versatile watch. Use it hiking. Use it swimming. It can handle it. But....it’s a little more sober than the AP, which is just a joy to wear given it’s outward finishing.

The blues of the dial are very different. The VC dial only lights up with that electric blue in DIRECT light (think a top-down spotlight in an elevator, or in sunshine at the right angle). Used indoors, or with light at strong angles, the dial reads navy. The watch really wants to be used outside to delight. It looks like you’re staring into the ocean.

The AP blue is lighter in color, is textured with the grand tappisere pattern, and also has a sunray finish. It’s gorgeous, and it displays well indoors. It’s more dynamic indoors or without needing daylight or direct lighting to look great. But, it’s not as dynamic as the Vacheron (keeping with the trend mentioned above, the AP reveals itself for the world while the more under-the-radar Vacheron reveals itself over time to you the wearer).

I think the Vacheron looks and wears killer on the rubber strap. So Vacheron on rubber, AP on the bracelet, it’s a good one-two-combo.

Honest truth: If you want a royal oak, get the royal oak. The VC is beautiful and stands on its own but it is NOT a royal oak. If you get a VC instead of paying for the oak, you will be disappointed.
