Silver or Black Dial for DJ36?

I’m looking to purchase a Datejust 36 with a domed bezel and jubilee bracelet but I’m stuck between the silver or black dial.

For some context this would be a one watch collection for me with little intention of purchasing anything else for a very long time. I have a relatively small wrist at 6.25 inches as well.

Any recommendations what colour I should go for to complete my one watch collection!

I have owned both. Sold the silver dial. Both are great looking. I like the black dial primarily due to legibility in different light settings. White sticks really show up against the black dial.

Black ... the silver will be difficult to see in certain lighting conditions or as your eyes age.

Guess I'm in the minority. I'd pick silver dial.

The black dial is excellent too, but I feel would make the watch wear a little smaller (36 is already the smallest I'd go in a watch) plus the cyclops seems to monopolize much of the dial in that configuration, whereas the silver just seems more balanced.

Thanks for all your input guys! I was leaning towards black myself for the versatility aspect but as TimeAZ mentioned was worried the black may make it wear slightly smaller ��

Fortunately my small wrists are prepared for this outcome ��

Takes on lively champagne hues in the sunlight, too.

Also, if you want the watch to wear larger, go for an oyster bracelet.

Youre right, the black does wear abit smaller. I personally prefer the black though for its versatility. I also like the strong contrast of the black dial and the white indexes and silver hands.

Both great dials, to me the choice depends on the bracelet and bezel. I would go silver if I wanted to go fluted and jubilee. I chose black because I think it works better as a more casual all rounder with smooth and oyster. For jubilee and smooth I would still go black as well, and for fluted and oyster its a toss up.

I did think about the oyster bracelet and how the solid end links and overall robustness would make it wear slightly larger but I’ve always been in love with the jubilee.

I’ve never been the biggest fan of the fluted bezel and feel like that combined with the jubilee might make it a little bit too flash for my liking. I think the combination of the smooth bezel and jubilee go together very well, although from what I’ve read it’s a bit of a faux pas to mix them the combinations up! Lol

I feel like the blue would be the least versatile of the 3? I kinda like the monochrome look of the silver and black

I'd go for a black dial. I had a silver one and had it swapped for a blue. Basically it was to hard to read in silver.

Another thing I thought about! Could always get an explorer further down the line.... but I’m not sure I’ll ever be in a position to get another watch of this calibre knowing my girlfriend lol

I think it’s more of a visual thing. To some people lighter colours look bigger and darker colours look smaller. Apparently it has something to do with darker colours absorbing more light?

With the silver DJ, the dial more flows into the bezel with the similarity in colour, perhaps creating the illusion of a slightly bigger watch.

Difficult to say without seeing two side by side I suppose.

Yeah the measurements are the same, black dials looking slightly smaller than the exact same watch with a white dial is some sort of weird optical illusion.

Try it next time youre at an AD it works with any watch not just DJ. Once you see it with the same watch youll notice it even with different watches with the same diameter

My 116200 I bought from an AD in July last year. Silver dial.
