DJ41: diamond dial or sticks?
Hi all - I would appreciate the experience and perspectives of the group, particularly those who have seen in person.
I currently have a SS/yellow gold Submariner bluesy and a SS Daytona white dial. I'd like to add a SS Sky Dweller blue dial some day, but given the supply challenges, I'm looking to add a SS DJ41 to the collection in the meantime. The Sub has been my daily watch. The DJ41 is intended to be my "weekday" daily (corporate job, etc.) with the bluesy Sub for the "weekend" daily (out with family, pool, has already been worn pretty well, etc.). For the DJ41, I've settled on fluted bezel, jubilee, black dial to complement what I already have (and hopefully down the road with a SkyDweller addition). I keep going back and forth whether to do the diamonds or "sticks" on the dial - I do like the incremental bling factor of the diamonds and don't think it's too much, but I haven't seen either option in person. I'm in my early 40s and would be satisfied with this 4-watch collection if/when completed (for now). Please let me know your thoughts on diamonds vs. no diamonds and any pros/cons that I may not have considered. Thanks! |

Stick or Roman for business/weekday. Fluted/jubilee is flashy enough.

I love mine. Will post a pic on here. The diamonds do not really draw any extra attention to the watch. It's hard to notice them unless you are very close up. The Fluted Bezel is by far the most bling aspect of this model. I'm not sure if this will factor in your decision, but I suspect the diamond dial may be slightly easier to find.

It's going to be your watch on your wrist, you should go for the one that you like the most.
I think most men preferred no diamonds but I love diamonds, so when I got mine, I picked YG TT diamond markers and MOP dial.

FYI, your MOP/diam. dial has almost made regret my champagne choice. Beautiful!

I'm a fan of the diamond indices. They are pretty subtle on the SS DJ. It'll give you something different as well.

I prefer the sticks but I do sort of like the diamonds on the black dial.
I just think like another poster said, fluted jubilee is more than enough flash for the business setting. I've worn a fluted Datejust for years at work. I think the diamonds might be a little overboard |

I have found myself considering a black or slate diamond dial DJ41 recently.

I am a fan of diamond hour markers, believe me I have paid for them in every iteration of DJ that I have bought for my wife. I would gladly wear a DJ36/DJ2/DJ41 with diamond markers on it myself. But... it does dress up the DJ and will add that extra bit of flash that you might not want in the corporate world. Given you have other fun and flashy watches, and this will be your subtle weekday watch, I suggest you go with the sticks here.

Diamonds, if you can pull off the look. Also adds a little more diversity for your current pieces.

Go sticks. I had diamond dial and sold it because it dressed the watch up for me to wear casually. I’d do sticks if I did it again.

My vote is for the sticks. My wife wanted the blue face with diamonds and a fluted bezel on an oyster. That is exactly what I ordered for her and she loves it. I don't see myself ever wearing it and I feel it is because of the diamonds.

I have had the DJ in 36 without diamonds and have had the DJII SS/WG with silver diamond dial and I sold all of them. I recently acquired a TT DJ 41 with the MOP diamond dial. I would have preferred a silver diamond dial but the MOP on the 41 isn't your typical diamond dial. It looks for silvery than MOP. The only other diamond dials are black and champagne both of which were not for me.

Hmmm... kinda depends on your company/job and the wearing of a Rolex with diamonds versus none. If it's banking or financial... or rapper, yes to bling. If you work as manager of a grocery store, perhaps no bling.

Diamond dial has no lume, consider all options. If diamonds, it will look more dressy than casual.

Also, regardless of the above... if you want another DJ that absolutely pops and is rarely seen in the wild, the rose gold / steel two-tone with sundust and jubilee and fluted is absolutely spectacular. It's a bit too much flash for me but, wow, it looks so good! You need to see sundust in person to really tell its true color... |

Thank you so much for the insights and pics! A couple follow up points:
I’m in finance - currently in the process of leaving investment banking and going to the corporate side (mid/senior level position). The lume on my Sub has always been faint and not useful anyway, so giving that up doesn’t seem to be a big “loss.” |

Fluted, Jubilee and Diamond dial. A bit flashy, but I’d still wear it anyway.
I’m think of about adding a blue dial DJ36 or 41 currently. |
