Advice for 1st Rolex
Hi,
I'm new to this Forum & to Rolex but am looking to purchase my 1st one.. I think a size 31 Datejust two tone gold & silver. The issue is I play tennis 3x a week so I'm thinking it's not smart to wear it during tennis but then will it keep the time if I don't wear it daily or will I need to get a watch winder? Any recommendations on how to go about getting one when the supply is low now? Do I stay away from pre-owned b/c of the warranty? Thoughts on after market diamonds? I'd appreciate any advice/suggestions for a newbie... Thanks! |

Just get a new preowned one. Rolex are built to last. You could smash the it with a racquet and it would keep ticking

hey sharifshopping this just comes down to your personal preference and your level of patience.
First - try to go see one in person - if possible. Does it connect to you? How's it look on the wrist? Don't wear it playing tennis or doing yardwork or whatnot. I'd wear it around the house and other things just not around a tool/ machine / workout intensive environment. All kinds of hand wringing about a watch winder...everyone has their own opinions on it. I don't have one. Thoughts on aftermarket diamonds - if you can verify they are legit diamonds - sure why not? This is a different topic altogether though.

Go to an AD.
Tell them what you want. They’ll tell you how long it will take them to get it for you. Determine if that’s an acceptable amount of time. If it is, wait and buy. If it’s not, buy it from a trusted reseller. Get a relatively new one and don’t worry about the warranty. The warranty travels with the watch, so you’re totally covered. You don’t need a winder. Many (myself included) have large collections and no winders. Winders can be a nice convenience, but resetting and winding is also perfectly fine, and preferred by many. Skip the aftermarket diamonds, unless you know a jeweler who’s work you know and love. It’s a relatively easy watch to get so none of this should be too challenging. Good luck and enjoy. Two tone 31 Datejust should be readily available at most authorized dealers. No need to buy from gray market or buy pre-owned if you do not want to.
Taking your watch off to play tennis will be fine. Your Rolex will have a power reserve of like ~50+ hours (someone correct me if Im wrong) so you will be fine not wearing it for long periods of time! Keeping it running does not require you to wear it all day, or anywhere close to it! Good luck |

For your first Rolex, I would buy new from an AD. As some have said, that configuration should be fairly readily available. If you go used, I would stay away from aftermarket anything

Playing tennis won't do anything other than wind your watch.
