Cellini Discontinued?

Stumbled upon this video on YouTube https://youtu.be/Udl26l1DO-c

The guy claimed that the Cellini line has been discontinued, with the exception of the moon phase. I just checked the Rolex website, and the other models are still listed.

Can anyone confirm what has really happened, if anything? If it has been discontinued, perhaps this should help with the stainless steel sports model production. I like the Cellini and own one, but I can’t imagine buying another—although the blue dial with white gold and date looks incredible.

Rolex is known for its strict secrecy and they never disclose anything, not to youtubers, instagrammers and not even to your local AD.

So many clueless experts nowadays on social media hoping to make a buck.

His guess is as good as yours or mine, worthless

Who needs to order them? They are still sitting in display windows at every AD.

If that is the case, probably not for long.

Rolex has no use for this sort of thing.

He is a grey dealer in Texas. I won't share his company or website... because he doesn't deserve the publicity.

Has ZERO official connection to Rolex... so, how would he be ordering models from Rolex??? Stupid!

I REALLY doubt it. They are an elegant watch and compete quite favorabaly with Patek at a lower price point.

Yes, they are discontinued. People who say that Rolex doesn't tell AD's anything are wrong. I wanted to order a dual time a few months back and my store can no longer order any of the Cellini's as they have discontinued all but the moonphase. Go ask your AD and I guarantee that they will say the very same. IF YOU WANT A CELLINI, GO GET ONE NOW IF YOU FIND ONE.

Dual time was discontinued in April 2021… so that is not news.

Only the dual time was discontinued. The other three references are still available, those being the Cellini Time, Cellini Date and the Cellini Moonphase.
I did however hear that Rolex USA are not importing to the US anything other than the Moonphase, but everywhere else all are available to order except the Dual Time.
I actually have an order I placed a few weeks back with my AD for the Cellini Date. Hopefully here by Xmas but we shall see.

The lack of desire for the Cellini is bizarre. As pointed out above - a beautiful watch at an amazing price point. Maybe if it wasn't for website such as this bagging it and social media, it would be held in the esteem it deserves. My personal thoughts (based on limited evidence but a pretty good hunch) are that the vienna project will replace the cellini with a Rolex dress chronograph with a date function either in 2022 or 2023. Maybe the former if they're running down stock.

Dual-Time should be the one that is officially finished. With the way America is frowning on Alligator leather, the others should follow suit (with that Moonphase exception). Maybe they'll find appreciation in Europe and Asia a little longer.. Or Oysterflex haha

If you click on "Show More" under the video, it will expand and you will see the links to his Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. I clicked on the Facebook link, and his Facebook page shows his location as being at 2109 South 10th Street in McAllen, TX. I then went to the Rolex site and clicked on "Store Locator" and put in McAllen, TX. It came back with two authorized dealers -- well, actually it's just one, because the second is in Mexico. The AD in McAllen, TX, is shown as follows:

DEUTSCH OF MCALLEN
2109 South 10th Street
Suite 20
Mc Allen Texas 78503

So either "Edgar the Jeweler" is using another jeweler's address on his Facebook page, or he is, in fact, a legit AD.

Great - does that mean Australia will get more of the great PP, AP, ALS, JPJ on Alligator straps?

Rolex is a hermetically sealed black box; anyone saying they have inside information doesn't.

And the VW Phaeton was an engineering marvel that completely flopped in the States, because nobody wanted a VW with S-Class features at an E-Class price. Or why Hyundai folded the Equus into the Genesis line (nobody wanted the "Korean Maybach").

I've long thought that Rolex should be pulling a "Reverse-Tudor" with the Cellini: Making it its own brand, with its own logo, and no more "Rolex" as part of it, but positioned higher than Rolex. A Rolex can never be expected to compete with a PP/VC/AP, but perhaps a (properly positioned) Cellini can...

The SkyD movement, with a dress watch case built around it, would be a good place to start.

Good detective work. I can’t believe DEUTSCH & DEUTSCH would approve of this SA making this video.

Every year, someone "has spoken to a Rolex insider" and has the info on what models will be discontinued, new colors, sizes, movements. Never seen any of them pan out. How did they do last year???

I believe you’re right - I looked up the shopping suites at that address and there is only one jeweler at that location, the one you named.

Now that Kathleen did her legwork, who was the grey dealer that you were thinking of?

I didn’t know this guy’s YT channel.

But if there are brand new, unsold, Cellini watches in a Rolex warehouse somewhere, Rolex isn't going to destroy them - right? If the manager at an AD contacts the Rolex Area Manager to see if something is available, and it is, won't it be allocated to that AD to sell?

That would make sense since the supply chain starts with the factory, goes to the country/market distributor as the importer, and finally ends at the authorized Rolex jeweler for retail sale. The strategy for each market is actually executed by the distributor. They sort out the watches and move them to retailer.

At any point in time along that chain are products available for order. For example, one dealer in the extranet could source a watch from the distributor or another dealer in same country/market.

To the buyer it would seem like an order to the factory, but fulfillment could be from different sources.

Since watches are ascribed to countries, and duty paid by importer, there isn’t a real way to balance stock globally. So in one country, a Rolex jeweler might correctly say “can’t order”, while in another the answer might be “yes” if stock was available at the distributor.
