Help: 16700 dial and insert

Hi Everyone, I am new to the vintage/neo vintage watch world, and seeking help with this 16700. Are the dial and insert period correct for 16700?
it's T serial from 1996.

Thank you in advance!

I don’t know about the dial but the insert is a service insert for sure. It should be a serif insert.

Dial looks all original but insert like most all inserts on watches with this age has been changed in its life as its just a $70 insert direct from Rolex.

Here's a replacement/service insert for my 16700 I got myself at the Rolex Service Center in NYC. The OP's insert looks pretty darn close.

Your insert might "look pretty darn close" but it is not the same. You have the "snowman" service insert - the top of the "8" is smaller than the bottom part of it.

Yes, agreed, not identical. Are you saying the OP's insert is aftermarket?

Not an expert, will leave that to Springer, but I can add a picture of my 16700 to the mix. I bought my 1989 watch shortly after it was serviced by Rolex in 2016. It had been serviced by Rolex in 2006 also, so can assume my insert is a Rolex service insert.

My observation is that although I thought at first it was the same as the OP's if I look at the '22' the bases of the numbers on mine seem to follow the curvature of the dial more closely that that of the OPs.

As mentioned, OP's insert looks aftermarket.

I would agree with time-to-go. Look at the bottom of the twos - they don't follow the curvature of the insert like found on genuine inserts. That variation of aftermarket insert is straight across the bottom and not curved.

EDIT: I see now the ancient mariner already addressed the insert question. Didn't see it before I posted.

I had a doubt on the insert but yeah it looks aftermarket. Look at the 2 on the 22 they are not perfectly aligned.
