Vintage Royal Oak 15000SA

Im thinking about purchasing my first vintage RO 2 tone as a wedding gift to myself (priorities :)

Im looking around the 80's/90's as that's around the year i was born. Recently there have been a couple of sellers selling 15000SA. I've been trying to read a lot of archives and reviews but strangely this reference doesn't seem to come up at all anywhere.

Does anyone have a previous thread (I tried looking) or any info on this model I.E. is it transition/ under different reference/ worth buying?

This will be a keeper Ill probably give it to my kids one day so want to make sure im doing all due-diligence

The 15000 is like a 33mm (and still automatic / self-winding) version of the 36mm 14790. How big is your wrist?

Just like the 14790, you can find 15000 dials with the "long index" (small tapisserie, older) and "short index" (larger tapisserie, newer) configurations. I prefer the older long index aesthetic.

There's an Yves Klein blue 15000ST/O/0789ST/06 floating around on Chrono24 if you want something pretty unusual.

You could say the 15000 (33mm) is the vintage predecessor to the 77350 (34mm) and the 14790 (36mm) is the vintage predecessor to the 15450 (37mm), but the bracelets on the vintage ones are more delicate and thinner and come off as more subtle.

The Royal Oak that first drew me to the line over 20 years ago is my uncle's 15000TT, in steel/tantulum. Last year, I tried his watch on and it definitely wears small by modern standards, especially if you are used to modern sized sports watches.

Here it is on my 6.4" (maybe 6.35" in the winter) wrist...


Still a great classic watch though. Just be sure you don't mind the size before you buy.

DH1 - Amazing. So im rocking a Datejust 36MM ATM with blue 2 tone dial with Roman numerals and Jubilee bracelet (that is a good size). Id say my wrist is around 6.4.

acaixguard - Looks great Does the 33MM include the face & bezel? So if not it actually come up slightly bigger and wears more like a I.E. 35MM/36MM?
