Sky-Dweller only 15% above MSRP?

I'm interested in the YG black dial Sky-Dweller on OF (ref nr. 326238).

Crazy enough, prices on C24 are "just" 10-15% above MSRP.

Am I missing something here? Is this an unpopular model? Not that I care about popularity, but it just seems odd to me as even PM models are now going for at least 25-30% above MSRP.

No, you're not missing anything. The OF model is going to be a niche piece b/c it's already priced north of 40k...and there's not a huge market segment salivating to spend that kind of money on a non-metal bracelet watch.

However, if one is open to OF, I think it's got a lot going for it. Sizing, the mini glide lock clasp, and toning down the PM factor for just a few. Recently, I got to try one on back to back with the steel black dial version, and it was no contest for me. But then again...I'm an OF fan.

its a really good reference. I love the OF and I think it works well with the YG or RG case and dail colors. Not so much of a fan of the white dial on OF, though.

A very cool watch in my opinion but already priced pretty high.

The model is soft. Hard to sell at $40,000. It's not a dog -- but similar to the WG YM42 on OF, there's limited interest in the reference for the price point.

Trade-in/wholesale value is far under retail+tax. If you go to a Rolex Boutique in a major city and express interest in this model, you should get it easily if you are a known customer.

There definitely is a market but the OF Daytonas are more in demand and prices USD60-65k in Hong Kong

This is a really nice piece but i think the watch overall is really top heavy and not v well balanced. For such a chunk of gold on a rubber bracelet & the general impression is that non-steel skydweller will not appreciate so that turns away investors (as there's so many these days in the Rolex world)

I tried one a few months back. The colour combination of gold and black is nice and the complication does not need further explanation. BUT…. The size is too big. If they had made it 40mm this would be as sought after as the Daytona on OF.

It’s too damn big. The limited audience it appeals to also limits its ceiling.

i agree that the size has to be right for the wrist bc the OysterFlex isolates the case size and accentuates the diameter and thickness.

The size is no issue for me as I wear my 44mm Deepsea almost every day.

I don't have a huge spending record with my AD (<€25k in 2021), but I might just try my luck with them regarding this reference.

Would it make you feel better if it was 50% above MSRP?

I just picked one up yesterday and love it. The all gold skyD was overall too heavy for me and while beautiful, very blingy.

The oysterflex combination when fitted appropriately perfectly balances the weight of the watch and makes it one you can dress up or down easily. I'm loving it.

it's a 40k 42mm gold "dressy" rolex on a strap. really niche market there but good looking watch nonetheless

Tone aside, let's not pretend value and perceived market desirability aren't factors. If this model were trading 2X retail, more people would suddenly "fall in love" with it more easily.

It's thick, gigantic for most wrists, on rubber, funky dial. That said, I like it, but I can see why it isn't a crowd pleaser.

I agree. Well said. That said, the more I'm wearing mine on my 7" wrist, I'm loving it more and more. Especially on oysterflex.

Black dial, yellow gold, oysterflex is a fabulous combo. If you’re patient, you can get one through your AD.

I’ve seen them unsold in AD windows on occasion.
Lovely watch but limited audience in this combo.

I don't know if there is anything I can relate to as to why the reference 326238 is not selling at a premium greater than 15% on the secondary market. The watch is expensive at the AD, $40K USD. It seems the watch is not made in large numbers. On C24 only 62 YG with Black Dial for sale in the world of C24. That means they either don't produce many, or they don't go up for sale often. If I had one I wouldn't be selling it. The current secondary market premium isn't why I would buy this reference, there are other reasons to have this watch in your collection.

Personally I’d rather find a nice example and buy on bracelet.

The RG + Chocolate Oysterflex combo is the best variation in my opinion!

Lovely watch. But it looks silly on that rubber strap.

Still, it's a fantastic watch whatever it's on and if I was going grey I wouldn't be complaining if the percentage premium was relatively low. Mind you, 10-15% of that watch's MSRP ain't small change.

As the grey market value continues to rise for other models, this seems more like a better option. I'd go for it if you like it.

Similar to the YM, it’s also not instantly recognized as a Rolex, which limits its appeal to a certain demographic.
