Why?

Most of the time here I come across like a moron who takes nothing seriously.

Most of the time I love my country and the people who live here.

Most of the time I am calm and compassionate.

Most of the time life is beautiful.

Then you read this...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/humber/8088886.stm

This isn't meant to be political or to start people arguing about pro this or anti that...I just hurt a little because things like this happen.

What a complete disgrace of human decency to kill a pregnant woman. I hope they throw the book at him and put him in prison for life!!!

What a terrible thing to happen to two young lives, what would urge someone to do such a terrible thing, I will never understand.

Tragic and probably will be found to be another failing of the mental health care in the community system

Jim....it baffles me to see what this world is coming to....i pray and cry daily for those in suffering...but YOU are a great man...with a sense of humor that always makes my hardships seem a little less intense...you cannot argue with wisdom, my friend...and you have tons! it is from people like you that I have learned that carrying around others suffering and burdens makes life a dark and long road.... all we can do is move forward and fight for a better future for our children....grandchildren...and so on...and I thank you for always being encouraging...regardless of what may be bothering you...so this time it is your turn to be "bothered'....and Im sorry you are hurting....you are a dear freind, Jim...keep your head up.

Tony, I'm not usually violent but if I'd have seen him do it, I would have thrashed him.

I suppose the fact the police got him there and then meant a few locals got hold of him....I think Martin is right however, it'll be another failing of mental health care.

Jim,

This is just awful. Sad thing about it - things like this happen every day, in all corners of the world. You simply cannot allow it to diminish your faith in humanity, as most people are kind and loving. We just don't hear about it in the news, as the media thrives on pain and horror. Justin said it the best, and I will second it - keep your head up, buddy! We need your lightheartedness and humor around here.

Jim,

I understand your feelings and am in complete agreement with them. I find senseless violence - in fact all violence - absolutely abhorrent. My reaction is the same whether these contemptible acts are perpetrated upon people or animals. That poor woman and her unborn child - how can her family make sense of such a senseless act? A twenty-one year old, pregnant woman walking down the street minding her own business dies a horrific death.

I am a member of a few animal organizations, and received a recent e-mail from one of them indicating a cat had been beaten and doused with gasoline.
What can I say? These acts are unconscionable and make the world feel out of control at times.

It goes without saying that he must have been mentally ill to commit such a crime in the first place.

However the UK Care in the Community programme which resulted in many of the Mental Homes to be closed down was started under the Conservatives and Maggie Thatcher (to save money!).

This was then continued under Prime Ministers John Major, Tony Blair and Gordon Brown.

Remember the murder on the London Underground, back in the 1990's of Jonathan Zito.

What can be said really?

The Dunblane horror irrevocably scarred my "soul" somewhat since I used to drive past the place and each time it would tear me afresh.

I try not to open my consciousness too fully to these sorts of events.

That is simply horrific news, Jim.

I cannot believe any sane man would do something so callous and heartless. The guy's gotta be on some kind of drug to carry out such a hineous act.

Strange things happen to good people.......and that poor pregnant lady just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Sad, very sad. My heart goes out to her and her loved ones.

Nancy

I was terrified when Claire was pregnant that something would happen to her.

At the time I always thought "Save Claire not the child" if anything was to happen but it's funny how things change once they're born and growing. I'm not saying I would put William's life before Claire's but I now wouldn't be able to make a decision like that so easily.

Being an expectant father is tough...you don't have the biological crap that the mother goes through but we have our own secret mental baggage. Impotance and uselessness is a major feeling...you have this person carrying another person and you want to protect both more than anything in the world yet there is really nothing you can do. You want the baby to be strong and survive until birth but when you think of the thousands of things that could go wrong the bottom drops out from your world.
Expectant fathers can be as emotionally weak as the baby they want to protect.
Then they are born and all that fear goes away. The relief, joy and love is beautiful.

Somebody for no reason at all took all that away from this girl, her partner and their families.

It breaks my heart.
