OEM Rubber Strap installation
Good day
So I went to install the OEM rubber strap (USD 80) for my 116713LN GMT. The shop used a tool to bend the spring bars at the end piece of the strap (watch case side) Is there any reason why he did that? Is that same practice for original Rubber B installation? Will it create unnecessary stresses to the lug holes since the spring bars are always at a bent position?

OEM rubber strap for $80? Oysterflex is about $279 per each side.

$80 seems like they might be replicas.

Some straps are a very tight fit and some are designed to have curves spring bars
Never heard of case damage, but with rubber straps I’ve used slightly thinner bars than the originals which gives enough additional movement to allow them to fit without bending them. The centre of the bar is effectively sitting slightly closer to the case.

No idea why you would think that but ok.
I have four Rubber B straps and find them exceptionally well made and look great too.

You’ve already damaged the spring bars. Next you’re going to damage the lug holes wearing the watch with bent spring bars rubbing in them. I’d put the bracelet back on. |

I talk from experience.. the bent spring bars or even the straight springs bars add too much pressure and tension on the lugs , you will soon see the damage it does after usage. There is a reason why Oem oysterflex ends are straight and not curved like Rubber B.

OEM Rubber Strap installation
Lifes too short for replicas. Kills me to see you vandalize your Rolex with cheap rep rubber. When it fails youll lose the watch and what did you save? You gotta pay to play. Why is OEM even in the title of this thread!?
Its like these people who buy really nice cars and cant afford oil changes Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Very confusing thread to me. There is no OEM rubber strap except for oyster flex. Rubber B is more than $80. Rubber B does not use curved spring bars.

OEM Rubber Strap installation
Guys, thanks for the responses
My watch is 116713LN, is Oyster-flex rubber strap fit to use for that model? I thought Oysterflex is for Daytona full gold model only… Secondly, what’s wrong with using replica, isn’t leather straps also considered as some sort of replica aka replacement?! Just a strap. Focus on the discussion points ie bent spring bars, I can use original spring bars for the installation instead of bent replacement spring bars

In my opinion you can use whatever straps you like - it really doesn't matter as long as it is sturdy. As for the spring bars, yes if one bent then discard and get good spring bars. Straight ones. Shouldered or non-shouldered depending on lug holes or not.

I keep providing my two cents for what it is worth...maybe not much. But I think rubber b and Everest are great straps and very secure and I have both, but I would not wear one in the ocean....not in wave action at least. However I would wear the bracelet without second thought and I would wear on a nato all day long in ocean with proper spring bars.

I have used them aswell , when you remove the strap after 2 years of wear you will notice the damage inside the grooves of the lug hole. Anyways your watch do whatever you may wish , I just informed what the curved end part does... My advise is to use a flat end whether oem or aftermarket rubber strap.

I don't even see how the damage you describe is possible if the strap is installed correctly. Sorry it didn't work out for you.

Bending springbars will weaken those with possible loss of your watch. It can only be done with way too small diameter bars which should not be used anyway.
Secondly these smaller ones may wear out and create oval holes over time. If this happens than good luck in trying to repair that. Rolex uses many different sizes springbars to achieve a perfect fit fir a reason. Buy another bracelet/ strap/ gator and use the original size springbars
