I hate to tip!

$5 is all I give. I hate the whole tipping system. I don't think I'm especially cheap, it just seems dishonest for some reason. I mean, I'll pay you whatever it costs, just do a good job! In some countries, like Japan, isn't tipping rude?

The one piece of missing information from your initial post is whether or not the person who is providing these services also happens to be the owner of the business. If that is the case, many would argue that since 100% of what you pay is pure profit, there is no need to tip (although I still tip out of force of habit). If she is not the owner and you are pleased with the services(s), at least a 20% tip is in order.

I pay $47 for a cut and dry and I don't tip.....but only because my guy owns the place! I've been going to him for about 10 years and have followed him from one salon to another. Now he owns one and doesn't need my money! LOL!

She does not own the shop so thats why I give her 50%.

Faith,
I would respectfully disagree. My wife rents booth space so in effect she's her own boss. The cost of a haircut is far from 100% pure profit. There's the cost of rent, supplies [hair color, foil, caps, plastic gloves, shampoo, conditioner, towels, etc], tools [scissors, sharpening services, blow dryers, hair straighteners, curlers, aprons, clips, etc.], my wife's time and gas to purchase said supplies on her days off, and then there's accounting services as well. Far from 100% profit.
Luckily she's great at her job, has many loyal clients, and will never loose her job to outsourcing.
dP
