Gmt
hi all,
I am thinking of adding a GMT to my collection. I have short listed 16710 or 116710LN. Do people have any views on either? I do like fact that 116710ln is more modern looking but I am also attracted by the point that for 16710 I can change the bezel to pepsi or coke at a later stage (if I want to add some color at some point). Any guidance will be much appriciated. thanks. |

It's a personal choice.
I prefer the slightly less noticeable 16710 which has a proven track record of over 40 years. Others like the flashier newer models.

All personal preference, I wore a 16710A (coke) for a few years before trading towards a 116710BLNR. I love the charm of the earlier model but prefer the way the newer one wears. If I could have both I would but I’m trying to keep a smaller rounded out rotation.

I can’t think of a 6-digit Rolex that I’d choose over the 5-digit version, outside of maybe the 114270, which is 5-digit in all but name.
The 5-digit sport models are the Porsche 993 of the Rolex world: the last and most refined example of the original way of doing things. |

I have a 16710 and a Batman. Prefer the lighter 16710. Also popped in a pepsi bezel as I prefer it . It looks too much like a sub with the all black bezel.

Looked back at when I bought that F series GMT and it was in 2010 for 4150 usd full set. Boy how times have changed.

Let's go back to the 70s or late 60s.

Both great watches though I went with the 116710LN because:
- maxi dial - super case - ceramic bezel with bolder font - newer so easier to find in better condition - nice green accents - wanted something different to my 114270 Explorer (which is more like the 16710 with hollow centre links, stamped clasp, etc.) |

Personally I’d go 116. If it were part of a big collection that had a modern gmt of some variety, then I’d go 5 digit.

The simpler and less flashy it looks, the better. That has always been my choice.

I prefer the 16710, it’s a classic and can be easily modified by swapping inserts; Pepsi, Coke and Black. The ceramics are tougher as the GMT hand is specific to each reference. Lastly, the case on the 116710 is a lot heavier and bulkier, the watch is clunky.

Agree and I have a 16750 and 2022 Pepsi. Had an M 16710 2008-2018 and that reference is the one to have.

Its the 5 digit or nothing. The other references are bloated shiny, excessively blingy homages to the references that made Rolex and the GMT what it is. Don't settle for an homage, get the real deal. The 5 digit GMT was the most versatile watch Rolex ever produced and the only advantage of the new references are simply wrist presence. The 6 digit references are almost like caricatures , in that some features were left the same, and other features distorted and exaggerated just like a caricatures sketch.
