This post from the beginning just annoys me. This guy just joins to tell us he wants to try and recover a stolen Daytona his roommate took 40 years ago. Pal, it’s gone. You should have pursued recovering it 40 years ago. Now you see they have gone up in value and want to follow up. What a waste of a post.

Back then the serial number was between the lugs on the case. People just filed them off if they had any question with the provenance of the watch. While title is never acquired with stolen property but remains in the rightful owner, it seems to me this ship sailed long ago.

I'd start by finding your roommate as he may have changed a bit since the 80s and could be ammenable to returning it. If he's not it would be good to have the sales slip and original packaging and warranty slip. Good luck!
