MLB banter

I’m more into watching hitters than pitchers and fielders, so I’m looking forward to seeing Mike Trout and Fernando Tatis Jr. return soon.

My team though is the Dodgers, and my favourite thing about them right now is seeing Max Muncy hitting again.

Any random thoughts on MLB at the moment?

I don't think it was intentional. Apparently it was in a medicine he took for ringworm.

Still, checking that out before he took it is totally on him.

i don't think anyone believes that but i think at the same time most know all these guys are using some form of PEDs. all these leagues say it's illegal but there's a reason they don't do strict testing, everyone would get caught lol

It's prevalent. Just like big schools and recruiting. Who can be the most underhanded and not get caught, is at the highest advantage.

For MLB banned substances, it seems pretty cut and dried. If what you're taking has X in it, you'll get caught when tested. You know this, or you're banking on reaping any benefits of taking said drug, and not getting caught.

Ah yes, the old ringworm gambit
Didn't Barry Bonds used to get ringworm a lot?

$340 million doesn’t buy what it used to……

Poor Padres has about one week of Soto excitement after trading the farm and then this happens.

Complete BS!!!!! He’s lying!!! Since they signed him to a 14yr contract (btw the dumbest thing I’ve seen in pro sports) he’s been a total clown. Giving a 22yr old a 14 yr contract??!! He fractured his wrist before the season riding a dang motorcycle.

Of course he is lying. Gotta try and save face somehow.

Is he a great talent? Sure. Is he polarizing and someone Manfried can make the face of MLB for the younger crowd? With his flair and antics, absolutely. Is he worth the $$$ SD gave him? Not at all. Not when he's done what he has in the offseason and seems to always be one play or swing away from his shoulder popping out again.

No hate from me though. I want to see him succeed. The league is much better with him in it. Coming from a Cubs fan that's trying to look for excitement anywhere I can.

Feel the same. He’s one of a handful of players including Vladdy and Ohtani whom I want to see as much of as I can.

78 games to go. He will miss the first 30 or so games of next season.

He likely took something banned to speed up his recovery from injury.

I love watching the kid play. He’s one of the most exciting players to watch in MLB.

Reminds me of Vijay Singh vs the PGA tour. Ultimately after 5 yrs and a week before the case went to trial, the tour settled with VJ. Oh and it was “deer antler spray” that Vijay used for him to test positive.

Ohtani is an actual generational athlete and i really hope he leaves that sorry angels franchise and goes somewhere he can win

yeah i think so too. it probably had something to do with his recovery as a lot of these guys are taking drugs to help with soreness/recovery/etc. anyone who's at the top of their respective sport is doing something that's in the grey area. i look at Judge this season and i can't for a second believe he's not taking something. i honestly have nothing against it though, people act like juicing makes you amazing out of nowhere, these guys put in crazy amount of work regardless and without this kind of talent you get nowhere anyway. i enjoy watching the ridiculous athleticism

he was really fun to watch and i hope this isn't the beginning of the end for him

I'm a big Ohtani fan and it'll be interesting to see where he ends up in the next year or so. The Athletic (highly recommend a subscription) had some great points about what the Angels would really be losing if they were to let him walk - not just the on-field numbers, but the Asian market, etc.

Not just a generational talent, but one of a kind.

he has to be looking at Trout's career and thinking he has to leave right? the sports gods need to let this man win

I don't believe generational players should go to places they can win.....they can win, or they can't. Just my opinion.

generally agree but the angels have had 2 generational players and aren't even able to make playoffs. at some point you need to realize the management is hopeless and go somewhere that can give you a chance

i don't mean he should go to a stacked team like the dodgers but somewhere that respects his talent besides just selling tickets and merch

Not mentioned much was Tatis' love triangle with Trevor Bauer and the crazy woman. The three of those people deserve each other.

Tatis is an immensely talented headcase with maturity issues. Apple doesn't fall far from the tree, apparently.

Roided up motorcycle jumping sounds only slightly smarter than an attempt at an August roid cycle. Greedy and stupid, really.

Tough one here. Tony Gwynn and Griffey - generational talents that never won. One left, one didn't.

I would not say that they couldn't win. Baseball is truly a team sport, not like basketball where you can have Allen Iverson take you all the way to the Finals on his own.

I'm not a big fan of championship chasers and would prefer Ohtani to stay in Anaheim (ahem, Los Angeles) but I also understand the drive to get away from a team that isn't looking to do what's best for the team because of money, a la the Marlins.

In my opinion, both Gwynn and Griffey are champions...rings or no rings.

I know the game well...

the sad part is the angels have the 10th highest payroll this year, granted 70m comes from two players, but i don't even know if they're cheap after the deal they gave Rendon. i just think the management is flat out bad at everything
