I'd have to agree, who would've thought Olive would give the contrast that it does.

Blunt honesty - I find the PP’s design quite unaesthetic. The case shape reminds me of a teletubby helmet, and its bracelet just lacks the classic presence of that of the DD. In contrast, all the elements of the DD are timeless and majestic.

This!
I wanted to write something similar when I read your message.
Agree 100%
In my opinion, Nautilus is aesthetically "strange":
please, try to look at it in an objective way, and forget
what it does represent.
it is not round nor squared, a little dumpy,
it has two large "ears" on the sides.

On the other hand DD respects all the canons and proportions
of the good watch; round, excellent proportions, nothing extravagant.
In my opinion DD is beautiful because respect proportions wonderfully, and not because has something particular.
In addition, that combination rose gold/green dial is wonderful

DD forever!

No lynching, but if the same question we’re asked in the Patek forum, it wouldn’t even be close

Sounds like your grandfather has great taste

OP, I prefer the 5711r design.

So, in my opinion, you're not exactly wrong here about the shape - I've always been more of an Aquanaut fan (but the original style 5060/5065/5066) - but something need not be my taste to be recognized as a work of art.

The way Patek mixes different metal/dial surface finishings and textures really makes Rolex designs' look relatively two-dimensional by comparison. Which is perfectly fine, as the designs are meant to be more utilitarian.

Ok, this thread has had almost 24 hours in the Rolex section, so let's move it over to the PP section for some balance.

At time of moving, the poll stands at . . .

By exclusion as I dislike olive dials. That said I'd prefer a blue 1J over the brown 1R.

OP, the pic of the Nautilus is 5711/1R. 5711R is another watch.

Now with that out of the way, my choice is the Nautilus. I simply love the Nautilus.

Nautilus 5711 case > DD 40. DD40 olive dial >> 5711/1R dial.
The finishing on the 5711 is really next level stuff and with the see through case back, it’s really unfair to compare it with the DD40. I personally hate the dial on the 571/1R due to its colour. Put a green dial in that 5711/1R and watch the horology sphere explode!

To those talking about the pictures looking amazing too good to be true, maybe. I used google for them and they both stood out to me... maybe stood out too much

Here are a quick few seconds of both in the same lighting in motion for a better feel if it helps

Yes the Patek is worth a lot more nowadays but before it got discontinued the MSRP of these two were not that wide. So pricing and brand aside, which do you prefer on an aesthetic level between these two? Which is the better full rose gold model?

I have the Day/Date Olive - it's nice.

However I would take the Patek over the two - from a visual perspective it looks more elegant.

Love the people that say they don't like the Patek or AP design and the only watch they have is a Rolex and most likely have never seen one of the above in person. If you want a basic watch with basic design buy Rolex.

Patek takes this one for me!

You can’t really lose here but damn sure I’m leaving with the Patek if you put them on the table.

I would take the 5711/1R between those two. Add the 15202OR to the mix, and AP is the winner.

I’ve owned gold and platinum DDs, the 15202OR, and worn the 5711/1R.

5711/1r

While both are beautiful - the Patek gets the nod over the Rolex for seveal of the reasons stated above. The Patek is slim, hugs the wrist and with a smaller wrist I prefer the size. The rose gold is somewhat subdued believe it or not for a gold colored watch and bracelet. Lastly when combined with the brown dial it just oozes class in a way many gold watches with bracelets can't. But that is just me and I am a bit biased.

My heart goes with the DD. My head with the Patek.

My vote is RG Sky Dweller chocolate dial.

Or Rhodium.

But that DD…

I own both. The Day-Date looks stunning and feels great because of its weight. The Nautilus looks and feels more special on the wrist due to the holistic design of the case and bracelet, and is also significantly less blingy than the DD. Contrary to some comments above, the dial on the 5711 is much more dynamic in person than the DD’s. If I had to choose, the Patek is staying.

I love the 5711 but in RG I prefer the DD40 with olive dial.
