Don't know much about it, just they were only made for 1 year, used condition. Hasn't been worn in 15 years..Probably needs work..Bought from a buddy about 15 years ago. Model 5510 and 1.1958 stamped on the inside cover.

I must say..You know how to make an entrance!!

The 5510,also called the "Big case, Big crown" indeed was introduced between circa 1958 to 1959. It carried a 1530 COSC movement. It was equipped with a 7mm Brevet crown as opposed to the 5mm crown of the 5508.
The 5510 was rated to 200m. Orginal examples appeared with a gilt dial with an enclosed minute ring, and were fitted with a riveted bracelet. See if you can see any numbers on the inside of your bracelst next to the end links. I'm thinking it should say 7206. The clasp looks right. Can you show a pic of the bracelet itself?
It looks like you may have a latter replacement dial as witnessed by the lack of an enclosed minute ring.
The bezel looks correct for the model as you still have a bit of red paint on the 12 o'clock triangle.
I'm sure after all this time the watch is going to need service, but I doubt RSC will work on it. Best bet might be a private watchmaker with a Rolex parts account, or one of the two independent Rolex service centers in either Chicago (312) 782-7768 or San Francisco (415) 982-9830.
My guess is getting the correct crystal will be the hard part.
Do not touch the bezel! Appears to be orginal and correct!
As to value--- so much is in condition and the value to a potential buyer, but I would say your looking at 5 digites.
Almost forgot---Leave the dial and hands alone!!!!!

I'll be up front and offer a trade.... my SD for that old watch if it is in working condiction! hmmmmmm better rethink this one..... my 5513 is no date, SD is date, the 5508 no date.... nope sorry my offer is off, I need a date somewhere... hmmmm maybe I'll get upgrade modification as Roger did but, must be yellow post-it to keep it original!!!!!!!

Great watch you have there though and unless you need the $$ I'd not sell it but insure it and do one of two things, wear it or store it I'm for wearing it.

Let me add my welcome to TRF, Chris. That's a real classic you have there. I would have it serviced by one of the independents Mike mentioned and then either wear it (my preference) or store it. Don't sell it. It's too much of a classic.

Thanks guys, yes looks like the dial was replaced with a luminescence one that glows at night. Probably a scuba diver who night dived. I'm going to try and have it serviced and sell it. The wife and I have a new baby on the way and the extra cash would really help right now. I will just clean up the outside lightly and get some better pics of it inside and out. I would like it to go to a collector who can really get some satisfaction out of owning it. A peice like this really doesn't belong in my hands.
