Numerous times before i have said Rolex are to blame, by creating a market where new Rolex watches are unattainable. Robbers and dubious people also know that because of the situation, used Rolex or any Rolex for that matter fetch ridiculous amounts of money.
So unless Rolex themselves create a market again where you can go into a dealer and obtain your Rolex without having to wait years, then these stories will appear on a regular basis. Wearing a Rolex now is a liability !

Sorry to hear this happened to you OP :( At least you and your gf are ok.

Wish you kicked the thief in the crotch a few times, see if he can still keep hanging on then.

It's at the point where it makes no sense to wear watches in big cities anymore. It's just not worth the risk - even if you are insured the true replacement cost is likely much higher.

It's Rolex's fault that our cities now filled with awful people who have no values or morals?

I hope that was a joke....

Rolex Stolen from wrist in Barcelona

Wearing a Rolex in Barcelona is …… like jumping in the jacuzzi at a frat party drunk and nude.

You may get taken advantage of.

A 116518 stands out and Barcelona has many a professional in the streets on the lookout.

I am sorry to hear of your loss.

Hmmm.... Look at that political statement right there in your signature! Pot, meet Kettle.

Anyway, this is why I have an Exp2 as my travel watch. No subdials, no bezel that says "RRRRRrrrrrrolex." Pro thieves don't want it because it sells at MSRP.

I generally wear my Rolex everywhere but this thread is a good reminder to be mindful of situations and places.

OP sorry to hear about your loss. I can imagine how you feel being attacked and robbed.
Ironically, my friends fiancé had her two tone DJ stolen in Buenos Aires while we had a night stop on our way to ushuaia to board a cruise to Antarctica. Even South Pole journeys aren’t safe these days.

I think thieves don’t care if a model sells at MSRP, since they aren’t paying anything for the watch…..

I'm sorry for your loss. The restraint you impulsively displayed there is the best thing to do for safety's sake. I hope that you and your girlfriend are safe.

Is this a joke☝️.I thought that was the whole point when making and selling something? Maybe Rolex should sell them for the same price as a Timex😆

To OP, glad you are OK. Good time when travelling to have the watch insured,

To the rest, yes, location matters and that's not political. Know your situation and do what's best.

I mentioned earlier on this thread, that my Explorer II was stolen from an LA Fitness gym locker in August. After reading this thread, I registered the watch with Watchregister and with Rolex directly. If Rolex would somehow acquire this watch, what is the procedure? Will they contact me and return it?

If the RSC is involved, they will contact you. That RSC will work with the local authorities in the jurisdiction where it was seized.

You will also work with your police dept that took the report for the incident, and likely the authorities in the other jurisdiction, to perfect your ownership (versus other parties) and secure your recovery.

If it is recovered by another entity, then Rolex will not be involved.

this is really freaking outrageous

also outrageous that despite cameras and badges everywhere the gym can't figure this out

Report political posts to the mods by clicking the triangle icon in the bottom left of the post. State in the report that it's a political post that has no place here. If it's a repeat offender, state that too.

The mods usually pay attention and will deal with that crap.

Reporting such posts is the only way to prevent divisive political rhetoric from continuing to make its way into watch forums, which (like watch thefts in certain major cities) has been a clearly increasing trend in recent years. Forum members can't control the latter but can control the former.

Thank you for that tip. I did not know that and I agree with you wholeheartedly!
