Google Voice is going to change how we use phones and phone #'s.
You still have to pay for cellular service if you want that number sent to your phone. It's great because you don't have to get multiple cell phones if you have a google number. |

I see a very potent software being developed by Google. The point that I, personally see, is that If I was to have a phone service that allows for unlimited min. for select faves/family/circle, I can just select their cheapest plan and fave Google Voice.
This way I pay a heck of a lot less than having to fave only a few while still having to run on my minutes for other contacts. |

Yeah, it's pretty great. For the uninitiated, you don't pay money for calls you make in the US, even if you originate the call from your cell phone. So if you "fave" your Google Voice number, you can call it and then make calls from there for no cost at all.

The problem I see with this, is that people don't remember phone numbers with their phone storing numbers.
You now will have to type the number I believe. |

Suggest the features/functionality. Google is pretty responsive in general, but very responsive during beta programs.

I got an invite for that a few days ago but in my case, there is really no point to it.
I have had the same 3 phone numbers for 12 years. In order to use this new thing I'd have to reach out to a ton of people and tell them to forget my other numbers and just use this one. AT&T has had the same service for quite a while now, and it is free as well. It's even available as a free app in the iPhone AppStore.

FYI - Google just launched a phone app for interfacing with Google Voice. Only available for Android and Blackberry.
However, there's a mobile site you can access from your phone's browser at http://www.google.com/voice/m on any phone. It works really well, and lets you pull up the contacts you have within Google to make calls and lets you make calls and SMS from this interface. It gives you access to call info and voicemails too. Very similar to a standard call interface on a cell phone. |
