Took me long enough, 11 years in, finally a Submariner incoming
Back in 2012, I remember sitting at the AD trying to make my mind up to choose my first Rolex. The choice was between the more complicated LN GMT, the only one available at the time, or the simpler more iconic Submariner. The 104060 had just been introduced and was not available for viewing or purchase yet. So I used the Sub date as a standin.
In the end, the fact I could buy it right then and there, as well as the marginally more elegant lugs won out and I went with the GMT, a watch I have an unmitigated appreciation for even 11 years in. And yet, the thought of „if only“ always remained with regard to the Sub. First I couldn’t quite justify it as it looked too similar and the lugs were really not pretty on the 10/11 series sub case, then, when the 12 came along, it had become unobtainable. But still, I kept mentioning at ADs that this would be a watch I‘d enjoy a lot. In the end, it took a bit in excess of a year of waiting, but today, I received an email that the watch is there for me. The catch is that „there“ is currently an international flight away for me, but it’s just a matter of weeks until I can go pick it up. Can’t describe how happy it makes me to now finally have a sub in my collection, after 11 years and a not insignificant number of other watches. I have a feeling it will slot very nicely between my GMT and the Sea Dweller. Really grateful for the good fortune this year has brought me in many respects. And for this beautiful way to mark an upcoming milestone. Really grateful for this amazing forum too, thank folks for sharing this passion!

Congratulations … I’m looking forward to seeing your pictures, once you get your watch.
If I only owned 1 watch, it would be a Rolex Black Submariner. |

Thank you all very much for the kind words. I will finally be back in Zurich in the end of next week to go pick it up. This is really proving to be a patience game till the very end.

So folks, sticking with the theme of „took me long enough“, it wasn’t until yesterday that I had a moment to fly back to Geneva.
But since I finally did, I can now proudly count myself among the very happy owners of a Submariner. What a fantastic watch this is! For all the gripes I had with the previous model, this one just flows so harmoniously and the case is so beautifully svelte (especially seeing as I have got used to an SD43 for well over a year before this. What a week, with the other incoming (see AP subsection) and this, I think I‘ll be done for a while now, if not for good. I also want to take this opportunity to extend my wholehearted thanks to Bucherer, who despite their being such a large company truly come through for the normal collector in a very fair and honest fashion and are always a pleasure to deal with. Of course, I am also extremely thankful for this wonderful forum and all of you. All the kind words of support here and all the shared passion and enthusiasm are really greatly appreciated!
