I am a true believer that Rolex watches are the toughest on the planet....goodness knows I have put mine through the mill enough times and they still look and work brilliantly.....however I do remember reading more than once that Rolex recommends rinsing your watch with fresh water after it has been in salt water.....assuming that most of us have a relatively good level of personal hygine and all of us (I estimate here) shower or at least wash in freash water every so often (even if it is a couple of days after being in the sea)....our watches should be just tickety boo.....there seems to be so many threads/posts lately regarding the toughness (or lack of it) of Rolex watches.....when will people eventually take on board what long time owners are saying........ALMOST ANYTHING THAT WILL KILL A HUMAN BEING WILL BE SHRUGGED OFF BY A ROLEX WATCH

Yeah, but I like the thrill of not knowing what new question will come up. It's always a crapshoot as to how outrageous the next question will be. You can NEVER predict them. "If I pee on my GMT, will it enhance the patina or will I need to have it serviced?" "The moon was full last night, and I noticed that my Sub is out of COSC standards. Do you think there is a connection?" Stuff like that!

Hmmm you make a strong point, I actually laughed out loud in the office reading it.

I wonder if going to fast on a roller coaster in the rain will have an impact on my gascets, I dont think they were made for that purpose...

The rain is the problem. Try to do that only in dry weather - you should be fine!

Well, Leo and Christian, I didn't do the flying leap into the lake on Saturday with my GMT on but I put up some soffit and a replaced the roof over our deck AND THEN went to the river and jumped from a bridge into it with it on.

It must be soft water because there doesn't seem to be any damage OR water spots .

All I have to do now is drive 2 hours each way to a roller coaster to REALLY test the gaskets and I should be able to report back.

It's raining so maybe I could stick my arm out the window and do about a 130 knots to simulate flying in a Piper??

If I unscrew the crown on my GMT-II to reset the time while on the Metro, will the increased pressure while we are underground cause the oils to leak out through the twin-lock gaskets ?

As far as I know the salt in a water softener is used to rinse the ionic balls that filter the metels out of the water and is not run through the house it is a closed loop system.I have a kenetico water softener and my water is awesome considering that my city water is chloramine a mixture of amonia and chlorine to sterilize the water. Maybe...

I think you need to set up an experiment, Ed. One must use the empirical approach in this matter to determine the exact results, so that the membership here at TRF can avoid any unwanted damage to their watches under these circumstances. You might want to contact your local Rolex Service Center first, though. Just to give them a "heads-up".

Ive just cleaned my GV and realised that since the last clean (1 week ago) I have managed to pick up no more than 4 proper DENTS on the sides of the oystercase...now what baffles me is that I cannot recollect hitting or bumping into anything with the watch in specific so could it be that theese dents are from the sweatparticles of my arm...they do contain salt I know cause it tastes salty when I lick it off...

I afraid my whole oyster will corrode away soon if I cant stop this!



(infact the part about the dents is true and it is somewhat concerning to me since I acually havent done anything with this watch to cause it...that I know of atleast)

This does pose an interesting question.

If someone swims in the ocean and doesn't rinse their watch, then could the salt cause any damage? I would think only if it got inside?
