Help me decide...

I'll be heading to Japan to work for 6 months and to keep life simple only want to bring one watch, but I can't decide between these two.

Of course the Root Beer seems like the natural choice as the dual time will be incredibly useful while abroad. On the other hand the Sub is a great daily wear, I'm not really concerned about beating it up as much and it goes well with everything.

What say you, TRF?

CHNR hands down.

In Japan you don’t have to worry about it attracting attention as it’s generally safe.

Since your traveling, I would take the GMT. However, if you will be swimming while there, I would take the Sub.

Unless you plan some pretty significant regular outdoor activity (hiking, etc) I'd vote CHNR. It dresses up and down, and would be a great "memory" with the watch to use it to track home time while abroad.

If it was me, I’d bring both - I know by about 1 month in I’d definitely want some variety.

If truly only one: CHNR

not really keeping life simple if you can't decide between the 2. just take both, 6 months isn't a small amount of time and you'll probably regret only taking 1

GMT seems the obvious choice, especially as the US/Japan time difference is big enough to make it useful.

My only Rolex (right now) is a Pepsi on jubilee so I am biased. That said, I very strongly recommend the sub. Although the GMT function might be more useful, and Japan is generally very safe so you dont need to worry about attracting unwanted attention, 6 months of daily use is a lot of use for a watch—especially a two tone rose gold watch. Not that I think you’ll be abusing the watch by any means, but the sub makes more sense for a daily watch that you’ll presumably be wearing literally everyday for 6 months.

GMT in Japan makes sense. The Sub would be great as well. Happy travels!

Easy choice!

CHNR - Japan is generally very safe and the GMT function is literally the best use case while being in Japan

Sub goes with pretty much everything. Love my CHNR, yet Sub would win for sheer versatility.

126610LN would be my choice. Between these two, CHNR. Had both of them, CHNR is more special and I like the cyclops date, iconic Rolex.

It’s Japan, you don’t have to worry about crime. Bring the CHNR.

If you want to keep track of local and home time on your watch the GMT is the default choice. If you don't need to, either will do. I'd be inclined to take both.

Your biggest question will not be what you’ll take to Japan, it’ll be how many to bring back from Japan!
